If the state of affairs with Germany was such that DC could ask them not to buy Russian gas, and their was a good enough reason that they would agree, it would have been done. There would have been no reason to attack it like this.

That was the problem for the Neocons - Germany was discussing with Russia what it would take to get Nordstream back in operation just prior to the US taking it out.
At this point, Germany telling the US to F-off and get out of their country wouldn’t surprise me...after all, every country has a breaking point, and the humiliation that we imposed on Germany could well exceed that.
