The Russians have surrounded Bakhmut. Day 333 of the war
Center for Eastern Studies ^ | 2/8/23 | Andrzej Wilk Piotr Żochowski

Posted on 02/08/2023 6:41:00 PM PST by JonPreston

Communiqués from the Ukrainian General Staff indicate that Russian forces are tightening their grip around Bakhmut. Enemy subunits are being held back on the north-western outskirts of the town (Krasna Hora, Paraskoviivka, Yahidne) and south of the Bakhmut-Kostiantynivka road, including on the western side of the Donets-Donbas canal (Predtechyne, Stupochky), which they have now crossed. The Russians are also expanding the area of their assault to the northwest of Soledar, where they have crossed the Bakhmut-Siversk road at Vasyukivka. The aggressor’s offensive is being contained south and east of Siversk, in the Avdiivka area, and in an arc west of Donetsk, where fighting for control of the city of Marinka continues. Clashes have also occurred in the Luhansk oblast, on the border with Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts; the fighting there is mainly taking place between Kreminna and Siversk.

Reports that fighting in the Zaporizhzhia oblast resumed in mid-January remain unconfirmed. According to the Ukrainian command, the enemy is conducting battle reconnaissance and trying to improve its tactical situation. Russian attacks on the defenders’ positions occur regularly, but they have been carried out in small groups, and no offensive actions on a larger scale have been reported. The regions of the nodal towns of Kamianske (on the River Dnieper, 30 km south of Zaporizhzhia), Orikhiv and Huliaipole have been indicated as the main targets of the Russian strike. The attackers have been making field advances south of these towns, most likely by seizing part of an earlier strip of no-man’s land.

It’s one guy in Singapore. Been following him for most of the war. Also a Ukrainian who has the “War in Ukraine” channel. He’s pro-Ukrainian but seems candid and informed.

Yes, entirely avoidable. At multiple points in the past. But here we are today in the here and ugly now. Kyrie Eleison.

I think we need to give more tanks, then planes, and then nukes to Ukraine. Unlimited escalation because we cannot let Putin win.

“Since 2014 to 2022, we have been watching how “someone” provokes Russia with the intention of causing this war.”

Exactly, and for additional proof read what Victoria Nuland, and Joe Biden have written and said about Ukraine. There are deep state secrets buried in that country.

Keep on celebrating communism, terrorists, etc. Jon. It is hardly hyperbole to suggest you have done that - repeatedly. You even said Russia invading Ukraine was a “liberation” on another thread. I’m sure Kuwait felt the same way when Saddam Hussein invaded them.

Given that the US has now attacked Russian infrastructure in international waters, we can expect retaliation somewhere in some form.

Given that the Obama/Bidet administration, Dems, GOPe, MSM, Soros & big War all have stated openly that Ukraine cannot lose, we are clearly going to direct war with Russia.

So, we can expect that American boys are girls will be getting sent to the Eastern Front to save demoncracy.

Amen, and all of this could have been avoided. There was a near deal last MArch, which was sabotaged by Washington, London and the screaming Neocons who cheer for war. Any war.

Right, Ukraine invaded itself.

Once Bahkmut is under Russian control, the Ukrainians are finished in Donetsk and Donbass.

The territory annexed by Russia is never going back to Ukraine. Even if we put boots on the ground, God forbid, it wouldn't.

It's time to stop wasting tax dollars and feeding Ukrainians into the Russian meat grinder and do as Trump has suggested and negotiate and end to the war. If that means unconditionally surrender, so be it.

Continuing this war simply will result in needless loss of Ukrainian life, Ukraine continuing to shrink and more wasted tax dollars.

He’s not Canadian, for sure not a western. He’s too busy lovingly looking at his signed Trudeau portrait.

I think this one is more recent and a bit more accurate.

Looks to me they have swung south and are circling the town now.

Russia was forced to protect the 95% of Russian speakers in the recently annexed four regions of the Dunbass. But ignore history and keep the coffee hot for the next Republican committee meeting. That’s your bailiwick.

Every Ukrainian is expendable, just like every Iraqi, Libyan, Syrian, only more so. Their sacrifice is one the US govt is willing to make

From the Ukrainian point of view, losing Bakhmut is a defeat, not a major defeat. For Russia advancing beyond is going to be just as hard as taking Bakhmut. Russia through Wagner is trading the lives of conscripts for a few meters per day. Ukraine is trading those meters per day for time to train soldiers and get more and better equipment. Long term, that favors Ukraine, not Russia.
