So, I’m taking it that the earthquake building codes aren’t very stringent?
Well, when the streets have been around for 2,000 years, keeping them all up to code can be difficult.
Wait a sec.
Twelve thousand!?
That’s a little high. Are the Muslims getting money for bodies?
Not trying to be callous.. just sorta familiar with how much Muslims love fellow humans and hate money... if you catch my drift.
So far. I bet it will be at the least twice that.
63,000 People injured? How does one help that many people?
This was strongest earthquake in 100 years. Not practical to spend money on higher construction costs for 100 year events.

This is so horrible. The numbers of dead are sure to rise and trying to treat thousands of injured people, feed and shelter those with no homes..just the logistics are unimaginable.
Very tough situation.
The government in Syria reports 1,262 in its areas the jihadists 1,190 in theirs total for Syria 2,452.

And yes, some of the worst will die, can’ be helped.
These are densely populated areas.
The numbers are credible.
Note that this is the area of Antioch, the city founded circa 300 BC by the Seleucid ruler Antiochus and where the early Christians lived. It has been devastated by earthquakes throughout the past millenia of recorded history
Those cities are ancient.
I spent a week traveling through Turkey decades ago, and the people were delighted to see American women. Even the people in rural areas, who were still wearing veils. Hard for me to watch the earthquake news, so many innocent people lost.
