SECOND mega earthquake hits Turkey, hours after record 7.8-magnitude tremor kills more than 1,700 people: 7.5 quake strikes as Turkey and Syria reel from overnight destruction that saw families crushed in their sleep

Turkey has been hit by a second massive earthquake, hours after an earlier catastrophic quake devastated the region and killed more than 1,700 people.

The 7.8-magnitude night-time tremor, followed hours later by a slightly smaller one, wiped out entire sections of major Turkish cities in a region filled with millions of people who have fled the civil war in Syria and other conflicts.

The later 7.5 magnitude quake struck at 1.24pm (1024 GMT) two-and-a-half miles southeast of the town of Ekinozu and around 60 miles north of the first quake that has wrought devastation across Turkey and Syria.

Hundreds are still trapped under rubble on both sides of the border as a result of the first, and the toll is expected to rise as rescue workers continue to search through mounds of wreckage for families crushed in their sleep.

Orhan Tatar, an official from the Turkish disaster agency, told reporters that the two quakes were independent of each other. He said hundreds of aftershocks were expected after both. Tremors were felt as far away as Greenland.

I hope we stop sending money to Ukraine and send it to Turkey.
Oh this is just so sad.

“ God didn’t set the earth on a downward slope....man did in the garden. Sin has consequences throughout the ages....the earth didn’t escape that. It grows old year after year.”

We all know that.
But posting about a terrible event that just happened and saying those people deserved to die because their countries leaders followed bad policy is sick.
The entire planet lives under bad rulers.

It’s always cool to be on line when events happen and we get the feed first hand.....I was on the night of “Hide the Decline” and then when Japan was hit with the Earthquake and Tsunami.......Japans ordeal was almost unbelievable. Called my brother to get on line as it was unfolding too. Though hard to watch as you know people are going to die and much destruction the degree of natures destruction is beyond stunning......and we have yet to see the worst unleashed.

Thing is though, Japan rebuilds quickly after disasters. Can Turkey do that?

At least 20,000 deaths, based on the 1999 quake, and this looks much worse than that one.

“And the earth(776) was(1961) without form,(8414) and void;(922).”

Can anyone explain the word in the KJV “was” which is Strong’s 1961 which defines that word as “became” in the hebrew.

Is that a torah/pentateuch reference to an extinction event?

How does something that God created become void? He destroys it.

You contradict yourself a lot in that post. You do realize that?

No. But trying to know God is like the fable of the blind men trying to describe an elephant.

“US STANDARDS” will not survive multiple earthquakes of this magnitude.

Los Angeles is fooling itself.

Personally, I’d go with with the Book of Job to elucidate how our minds cannot fully completely resend the Mind of God. And then there’s this:

https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/trevin-wax/3-ways-the-blind-men-and-the-elephant-story-backfires/

That done, yes you do contradict yourself. In your post #17 you stated “God is smiting Turkey for its intransigence in allowing Sweden and Fenland join NATO” — claiming to know God’s mind.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4128892/posts?page=17#17

Then in your post #41 you wrote “The Lord moves in mysterious ways, and sometimes, to the observer, the motives may be too dark to grasp.” This contradicts your #17 in which you claim to know God’s motive for His alleged “smiting” of Turkey.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4128892/posts?page=41#41

You just keep contradicting yourself. Over and over. And resorting to Eastern religions. Karma, the elephant story, etc. Interesting mishmash you got going. OT smiting combined with karma and silly platitudes about piety being rewarded. Typical New Age make-up-your-own-religion-to-please-yourself-in-the-moment type stuff.

God DID smite Turkey for the Armenian massacre. The Ottoman Empire fell soon afterward.

Well Ataturk sure wasn't smited for it.

Backatcha. Well said! I usually just roll my eyes and scroll on down, but in a crabby mood today and last evening. There were always a few like that on FR, but it seems ... well, I miss the old FR. It’s quite something how mwny Freepers are consumed with Ukraine war fever, also how there can scarcely be a thread without some vax-obsessed person injecting the vax thing into it. Yes, I guess I’m feeling crabby and nostalgic for the olden golden days of FR.

Drawing an equivalence between Erdogan and Belshazzar is equating Turkey with Chaldean Babylon before it was conquered by Persia.

In what sense is Sweden and Finland’s entry into NATO similar? Are you claiming NATO is somehow equivalent to the Achaemenid Empire? Or perhaps to the Jewish diaspora during the Babylonian exile?

Because unless there’s a specific religious parallel you’re going for, I’m not seeing why the earthquake would specifically be a punishment related to **NATO**, of all things. (As though NATO is of a higher priority to God than actual sin.)
