A massive spy balloon from China is flying over the continental U.S., government officials said Thursday.
"The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is flying over the continental United States right now," Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters. "NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) continues to track and monitor it closely."

I wondered if they thought the payload might be explosive/radioactive material/contain some sort of bioweapon. Maybe that could be why it wasn’t taken down.

Exactly, if the threat is neutralized, why take any further chances on there being a Trojan Horse of some kind. I would somehow attach an explosive device with a remote detonator and blast it when it gets home.

How is it the USA "stirring the pot" when it's China that is constantly harassing and threatening its neighbors? They were running "it'll only take a handful of nukes to kill all Japanese" in their propaganda last year, simultaneous to their military exercises just a short distance off Japan's shore alongside Russian warships. Russia at the same time began randomly threatening Japan even though they hadn't even done anything yet, running exercises off of that island they are illegally occupying that belongs to Japan that the Russkies seized after the war had already ended. This was prior to the February invasion of Ukraine.

Just an FYI, all Russian claims for why they "had" to invade and rape and murder have been debunked:
(1) "Ukraine was about to join NATO!" (France and Germany have opposed Ukrainian NATO membership as far back as 2008, and joining NATO would be impossible due to the ongoing conflict in the Donbass)
(2) "Ukraine was bombing Donbass!" (Independent Orgs and the OSCE documented the exact opposite: Russia had been bombing Ukraine for 8 years)
Rinse and repeat with all the other bullshit lies they've created over the past year to justify the invasion.

Daines sent a late letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Thursday amid reports of the suspected surveillance balloon over U.S. airspace.
The Montana Republican called the high-altitude Chinese balloon a "concerning event" and told Austin that the "fact that this balloon was occupying Montana airspace creates significant concern that Malmstrom Air Force Base (AFB) and the United State's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) fields are the targets of this intelligence gathering mission."
