New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) said Monday on “CNN This Morning” that racism was involved in the death of Tyre Nichols.
Host Don Lemon asked, “Much has been made about the officers, all of them being black. You said that diversifying police departments would allow us to have a level of policing we deserve. These five officers are all black. Is there an entrenched police culture of aggression towards black people?”
Adams said, “Clearly, we could not ignore the ethnicity of the officers that are involved. That is the pink elephant in the room. And people talked about that. And when we want to diversify departments, it’s not only African-American. We have increasing number of members from the AAPI community, Spanish-speaking officers, Muslim officers. The role was to ensure that you diversify departments, so the officers are coming from the communities that they represent and grew up in those communities.”

Memphis cops charged in Tyre Nichols murder hired after PD relaxed job requirements
At least two out of of five Memphis police officers charged with murder in the fatal beatdown of Tyre Nichols joined the force after the department relaxed its hiring requirements.Tadarrius Bean and Demetrius Haley both joined the Memphis Police Department in Aug. 2020, NBC News reported, more than two years after the department dramatically loosened the education qualifications to become an officer.
Recruits no longer needed an associate’s degree or 54 college credit hours to join the force, and could get by with five years of work experience, Action 5 reported.
Loosening the required qualifications however means that the department is ultimately getting “less desirable” job candidates, Mike Alcazar, an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a retired NYPD detective, told The Post.
“They’re desperate. They want police officers,” Alcazar said. “They’re going through it, they check off some boxes, saying, ‘Ok, they’re good enough, get them on.”
The department showed signs of struggle with recruiting new police officers, offering $15,000 signing bonuses in 2021 and 2022, Fox 13 reported.

And I am not in any way defending these out-of-control cops; IMO they, too, fall into that latter category.
Tyre must have been on drugs to do things as he did.

Right, and the logical takeaway is that adams is unwittingly saying that blacks are equally capable of racism. One who wishes to be an elected democrat must first check his brain at the door.
Could be but far too many people are drugging themselves in some way with adult beverages, legal and illegal drugs (pot) and pornography including cops.
All the above intoxicates with anger and violence so folks like Tyre end up dead.
