Bill Gates is more optimistic about the future than the present, and expressed confidence that globalization will thrive.
What Happened: "It’d be much better to be born 20 years from now, 40 years from now, 60 years from now, than any time in the past," Gates said while taking audience questions following an in-person conversation with Lowy Institute Executive Director Dr. Michael Fullilove in Australia earlier this week.
The amount of innovation and the improvement overall in the human condition is still going to be dramatic, the billionaire said. He was confident in finding cures for obesity and cancer and eradicating polio.
“It's easy to get a more negative view of some of these trends than it's really fair, in my view. I'm still very optimistic,” he added.
On Globalization: When asked whether the faltering globalization should be energized amid recent challenges or whether another narrative should be framed, Gates said that globalization is associated with a lot of things today.
He noted that the modern economy today is very hydrocarbon-dependent. If globally-traded oil is eliminated in large part, that will depress global trade, he said, adding that it is "the biggest single thing" in terms of dependency.

Yeah, in 20 years there will be no tar or feathers.
If his point is that people born 20 years from now will never have known liberty and so can never miss it the way older people will, he may have a point.
The world 🌎🌍 would be a better place NOW if Bill Gates would shut up and go away, immediately.
What a strange, even ominous thing for him to say.
Nobody wants to kill you. You can’t consume all they are creating if you’re dead.
I’d be OK with Bill freezing himself and coming back in 40 years, I won’t be around.
“It'll create significant inefficiencies,” he added.
WTF does that mean?
I wish that I met him back in the 1970s knowing what I know now.
I am afraid if things don’t improve rapidly the future is not going to be cheery. Old time 60s cartoon by Ron Cobb.

I disagree. I almost wish I were born 20-40 years earlier.
I’ll wish that with you.
The little prick who became the richest man on the planet for a while isnt very fond of the nation that allowed him to do that.
Thats what it means.
Nothing stopping the sob from moving to Beijing to be with his people.
Oh, except for their hardline immigration laws. That he opposes for us.
I’m curious to know where liberty lands on the future condition of humanity.
Great.
What does Alyssa Milano has to say on the subject?
Hey Gates, why don’t you cryogenic yourself so you can come back in 20 years.
Bill wants to be here when the Left creates Hell On Earth
Stark Raving Mad .
Dangerous .
I would rather live now than at any time in the past. I believe 20 years from now will be better as well.
Of course, if he were born 20 years from now, Bill would have ended up refurbishing old computers using cannibalized parts in his father’s garage, since new computers will be too expensive for the average person to buy for those born in twenty years, instead of founding a super-business from there.
And I’m pretty sure the WEF will prevent new billionaires by then, anyway.
