Romney defends US aid to Ukraine: ‘We care about human life’

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Thursday defended the continued aid that the United States is providing to Ukraine to defend itself against Russia, saying that as a country “we care about human life.”

Romney said in a video post on his Twitter account that the U.S. support for Ukraine is both the “right thing” to do and necessary for U.S. national security interests.

“I begin, of course, with just the humanitarian reality, which is we care about human life and about the suffering that’s going on in Ukraine,” he said. “We’re just appalled by the fact that Russia has invaded a peaceful, sovereign nation next door.”

Romney said the U.S. has more prosperity when the world is more peaceful, and conflict makes the U.S. “less well off.”

He said history has shown that when one country sees that it can invade another country without any consequence or reaction from others, that type of mentality continues spreading throughout the world and eventually involves the U.S. getting attacked.

“That’s one of the lessons of history, which is that violence in the world spreads, and it ultimately comes to our own shores,” he said.

Romney said Russia is a “geopolitical adversary,” and the U.S. is helping to deplete the Russian military through its aid to Ukraine. He said Russia is China’s only “real” ally, so weakening Russia is also an effective way to weaken China.

He said the spending given to Ukraine is “of the same manner” of the spending for national defense. He said the U.S. spends about $750 billion on national defense, and the $20 billion to $40 billion being spent on Ukraine is “basically in the same category.”

“It is defending American interests, America’s national security against adversaries that would threaten us,” he said.

“We’re just appalled by the fact that Russia has invaded a peaceful, sovereign nation next door.”

LOL! Ukraine was a mostly peaceful country. Ask the Russian speaking population in eastern Ukraine.

Hope people have stopped crying enough to see this post:
Romney is a fool. Like his corporate investments, the war profits are at the top of the value pyramid and we and the people in Russia or Ukraine are on the bottom.

Top richest US Senators: Number 4:
Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah.

Net worth: $300 million

Romney co-founded Bain Capital, a private equity and investment firm that became one of the largest of its kind in the nation.

The borders in Europe have moved back and forth for a thousand years without any help from us.

The don’t need our help now. It’s the Euro’s problem. Let them deal with it.

How many more have died (soldiers on both sides, civilians) because U.S. foreign aid prolonged this war? It and the killing would have probably long ago stopped.

The only coherent factual comment on this thread so far.

The people who mismanaged Covid, the War on Terror, the economy, our currency, our government, and education are the ones telling us that we should push a proxy war in the Ukraine.

Let that sink in.... tell me where I am wrong.

I don’t like Putin. I don’t like Zelensky. I feel sorry for all those harmed on both sides of this conflict.

I want it to end without further escalation. This is growing more dangerous by the day and if it comes down to the survival of Putin I think he might do things that the same geniuses assure us he won’t.

We have people talking about nuclear war as if they are discussing a recent trip to a fast food restaurant. Have we lost our minds?

If it would not be for the US most Ukrainians still would have a roof over their heads and sleep in their own beds and this war would be over by now. Probably the eastern portion of the Ukraine which has a large portion of ethnic Russians and was constantly assaulted and antagonized by radical groups would have been annexed by Russia and things eventually would have settled down. The only difference would be if Ukraine returns to Russian guidance as it has been previously for four hundred years would be somewhat less corruption and most of the radical elements would be wiped out.

The same goes for Europe if they had not jumped on the US bandwagon. The US purposely damaged the gas supply lines making sure that Europe in general and Germany in particular remains dependent on the US like a colony, just in case they may come to their senses and change their mind.

Those days when Russia had any ideas of expansion are long gone and over with and things of the past as Russia has more than enough and then some on its plate to take care of. All they want is a quiet neighborhood without NATO or CIA manipulation and intervention. Just like the US likes to keep their backyard free of any intruders, as expressed in the Monroe Doctrine. But the warmongers within the US government along with their associates and friends keep egging them on, knowing that a peaceful coexistence is bad for the production of war materials, especially the military industrial complex as well as the globalists, cranking out wartime supplies like there is no tomorrow and if they keep it up there may not be one. So, they keep stirring the pot until it will boil over and it isn’t too far from doing just that.
