At least two out of of five Memphis police officers charged with murder in the fatal beatdown of Tyre Nichols joined the force after the department relaxed its hiring requirements.
Tadarrius Bean and Demetrius Haley both joined the Memphis Police Department in Aug. 2020, NBC News reported, more than two years after the department dramatically loosened the education qualifications to become an officer.
Recruits no longer needed an associate’s degree or 54 college credit hours to join the force, and could get by with five years of work experience, Action 5 reported.
Loosening the required qualifications however means that the department is ultimately getting “less desirable” job candidates, Mike Alcazar, an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a retired NYPD detective, told The Post..

Affirmative action cops......Wonder how many in all police forces around the country
“Equity” gives results. Not always positive
Gee … Isn’t it great when you reduce things to the lowest common denominator…
.
We were told Black police chiefs would solve the crime problem in the cities.
How has that gone?
They (the Left) move onto the next crazy woke idea and no one mentions how they’ve botched Cities, Schools, Crime, and Government
.
Affirmative action has consequences.
A two year hitch in the military would be more valuable than a two year liberal arts Associate degree.
They knew about the pole cams and body cams. Besides how wrong it is to do what they did in the first place, how stupid are they to do what they did while knowingly being recorded?
Old: Not having persons of color on the force equal to the surrounding region’s racial demographics is racist. Hiring and promotion quotas must reflect this factor.
That was once believed to be the solution to the minority and police interface problems.
Gotta love that diversity and inclusion dontcha?
“Community Policing “ at its finest…….
Equity is all about embracing the lowest common denominator. A race to the bottom.
Tadarrius Bean ?
The dude should have never been hired just based on having that name,
A coffee shop would have been a better career for da Bean man.
“… after the department dramatically loosened the education qualifications to become an officer.”
Is this the cause or an effect? If you’re a smart cop, are you going to work in Memphis (or DC, or Minneapolis, etc)? If you want to hire cops, but only dumb ones apply, you’re sort of obligated to lower your standards, aren’t you?
3 of the cops had gang ties.

Welcome to Rat World
The nature, quality and behavior of the police ultimately reflects the political and moral values of the communities they serve. Don’t expect god fearing, morally upright officers in a community that openly tolerates and embraces neo pagan, hedonistic decadence. Also even if a good person takes a law enforcement job in such a place, it is understandable that after dealing continuously with harassment, chronic unpunished criminal activity, a lack of support, they can and do go bad or make a very bad decision in the heat of the moment.
I wonder what the requirements are for the NYPD.
BTW and FYI, Memphis has one of the highest murder rates in the U.S. Memphis and St. Louis are worse than Chicago.
“Tadarrius ... and Demetrius...”
Equity for all.
