This Time It’s Different
The American Conservative ^ | Jan 26, 2023 | Douglas Macgregor

Until it decided to confront Moscow with an existential military threat in Ukraine, Washington confined the use of American military power to conflicts that Americans could afford to lose, wars with weak opponents in the developing world from Saigon to Baghdad that did not present an existential threat to U.S. forces or American territory. This time—a proxy war with Russia—is different.

“The point is, if war breaks out between Russia and the United States, Americans should not be surprised. The Biden administration and its bipartisan supporters in Washington are doing all they possibly can to make it happen.”

How do we know that Ukraine didn’t attack Russia or wasn’t about to? Seriously, how do we know that the Russians are the bad guys in all of this?

The media lies about everything. They are lying about this. Why do people believe that the media are telling the truth in this instance when they lie about EVERYTHING else? We actually have no idea what the real cause of this war is, or if there is even a war actually being fought.

The fact that Xiden and Demonrats say it is happening is prima facie proof it isn’t. They are, for all we know, just engaged in a complex money laundering scheme for their own enrichment.

If Xiden is for Ukraine, I am against them. Xiden and the Woke left are a greater threat to the world than Putin, Xi or Iran’s leadership

If we decide that all our piecemeal delivery of materiel and training to the diminishing numbers Uke army cannot save it from a Russian onslaught, would we re-arm Ukraine with nukes to use as an ultimate deterrent against Russia like Israel has against its neighbors? Not joking here as things are spinning way further than I had imagined and basic numbers are not on the Ukraine’s side against a war of attrition with Russia.
Is this the end game of telling the UKES that they would be defended in the future if they gave up their Soviet nuclear weapons back in the 90s?

The Ukraine is taking at least 300 KIAs per day...

America is not even remotely ready for that...over the most corrupt country in Europe run by a tyrant.

Is it conceivable we would help re-arm Ukraine with nukes to threaten Putin with themselves, to replace the Soviet ones they gave up when they were assured that their territory wouldn’t be left defenseless without those nukes?
I am deadly serious here.

I do and I frighten myself with these out-loud thoughts.
The situation continues to evolve in unexpected directions.
Is it even certain that Ukraine DID in fact, give up all its nukes back in the 90s? Do you have so much confidence in this administration and this DOD to think clearly?

This is a message for all the “Russia would never dare to use nukes” people here (you know who you are).

Most of you have said, at one time or another, that if China sank a US aircraft carrier, that you would “glass Beijing” or blow up the Three Rivers dam in retaliation.

That is, in response to losing a military target in the open ocean, with zero collateral damage and no civilian casualties, you would kill millions or tens of millions of women and children.

Now, I don’t actually believe the US would do such a thing - but a lot of you would.

There are Russians who think like you do. Probably more than a few. And there is a good possibility that the leader of Russia is one of them, or that he has people close to him who think like that.

Before the next step, give that some thought.

The Ukraine is taking at least 300 KIAs per day...

...you could’ve stopped right there, without adding the closing propaganda.

As though, through a passive implication that the opponent is saint zelinski.

This war started back in the early 90s. Got going in 2014, and boiled over since then.

Guess which political party controlled the executive branch of government those three times.

AND, the ICC was in the midst of investigating crimes against humanity by the Ukraine before this one started.

Would the more reasoned portion of the American Populace even get a say in the issue before such dangerous things were implemented? I’m not as confident as I would have been 20 years ago.

The States united never did any such thing. There's only one way for the States, which are united by a Constitution, to do such a thing, and that is for 2/3 of the States' ambassadors to the national government (Senators) to ratify a treaty that makes that promise.

No treaty, no promise.

Nor is America ready for 10 million KIA in one blinding flash of light.

Seriously, how do we know that the Russians are the bad guys in all of this?

Because most of us aren't smoking Russian weed.

If you know anything about the history of this area, you know Russia is the bad guy.

The US and Europeans slow-walked the accession of the former Warsaw Pact members into NATO, did not move or create new bases in them and left them mainly with Soviet arms that were slowly upgraded. NATO members also substantially reduced their militaries between the 90s and now. Ukraine asked to join NATO, not the other way around, and with obviously good reason.

If you think this was "provocative," you're simply assuming the Russian position that Ukraine is within its "sphere of influence."

Nor is Russia ready for 10 million KIA in one blinding flash of light, which is why it won’t happen.

Believe you, me that I am giving those things my thoughts and I am NOT reassured that our current leadership and deep state will respond the way I think they should. There are many uncertain elements in this conflict. I’m starting to think that the prevailing plan from our leadership is prevent Russian victory of any sort in Ukraine at all costs, including taking some nukes from an overrated and less than effective Russia, rather than be seen as appeasers a la WW2 Chamberlain.
