Is this the end game of telling the UKES that they would be defended in the future if they gave up their Soviet nuclear weapons back in the 90s?

The States united never did any such thing. There's only one way for the States, which are united by a Constitution, to do such a thing, and that is for 2/3 of the States' ambassadors to the national government (Senators) to ratify a treaty that makes that promise.

No treaty, no promise.

I understand your reasoning but I do not see that our current administration and the rest of NATO are acting with restraint reflecting that.
