“Nukes take a lot high tech maintenance.”

Unfortunately they don’t take a lot of high tech maintenance. Your car takes more maintenance that the warheads. They only need a couple of life items need to be replaced every couple of decades. As long as you don’t drop them, crash into them, or set them on fire, their good to go.

Iraq

Saddam Husein

During his time as head of Iraq, Saddam Husein attacked
Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Israel.

In the Iraq/Iran war, hundreds of thousands of men died on
both sides. For a period of time it was thought that
upwards of 500,000 men died on both sides. In recent
times those figures have been pared down, but Hussein
was a vile individual responsible for what was probably
between 350,000 to 500,000 people.

He gassed his own people. He was brutal with his detractors
inside Iraq. His sons were a terror as well. The guy
built himself palaces all over Iraq, not improving the
standard of living for his people.

We entered the picture when he overran Kuwait. There he
completely took over the nation, and his men looted whatever
they could carry.

The implications at the time were that Hussein would
continue down the peninsula taking other oil rich nations
and impact European supply lines negatively.

Should we have stood back and allowed Iraq to conquer the
whole of the Persian Peninsula?

Some folks make the argument that Europe should handle
their own problems. Yeah, and how well did that work
out around 1917 and in the 1930s? We had two world
wars as a result.

At this point in time, Europe and the U.S. don’t see eye
to eye politically or economically at times. Should we
add in a military quotient to those problems?

We do not want another large well-trained European war
machine. We don’t want China or Russia to become the
world’s police. So we opt to become the world’s police.

I know some folks don’t like it, but there it is. It’s
us or people who have proven themselves to be very
untrustworthy ideologically, militarily, or both.

Since we went to war with Iraq, there have been no further
invasions of other nations. The people of Iraq are as
peaceful as they have ever been, even though though there
has been problems before and after our actions. Still
the nation seems more stable and less threatening.

If you want to laugh, laugh at these concepts.

Iran continues to invade oil supplying nations
Iran conquers a significant portion of global oil supplies
Iran impacts energy prices around the planet

What I didn’t mention, was that Hussein was paying $25,000
to the families of suicide bombers in Israel.

He had said he would finance any terrorists who wanted to
attack the United States or it’s assets.

The man was a bad actor, and needed to go.

I detest Bush, but the Iraq war was fought for several
reasons.

It achieved the desired goals.

Keeping regional terrorists focused on causing problems
in their own neighborhoods rather than on our soil, was
a worthwhile goal.

Whether Hussein was involved in 09/11 or not, it put
terrorist entities on notice, the U. S. wasn’t going
to pussy-foot around with declared enemies of our
nation.

I didn’t give a fig about WMDs. We know he had them and
he used them. Just because he sanitized the place before
we showed up, it’s immaterial.

Using WMDs as an excuse was silly. There was plenty to
address without that being the case.

The way I remember the first Reagan win was that while they voted for him, the people were a little apprehensive because the media was so adamant that Reagan was a war-monger who was going to launch nukes, the people were happy with their choice, proud of Reagan and chose him because we had to get tough with Russia to survive, but people knew that with toughness comes risk.

His constant confronting and challenging of the Russians was a little scary, including for the Russians, and it worked.

Yes, we never should have accused Saddam of having WMDs when it was a lie. And Neocons never should have linked arms and cheered on that war, like some unrepentant boobs are doing with Ukraine.

It’s what the Russians understand, and respect.

Google Vicky Nuland and biolabs in Ukraine. Maybe they haven’t censored her comments, but then again maybe they have.

“The Russians seem to be the kind of people who are not happy unless they are not happy. A miserable people.”

They’ve known nothing else. As a people, they have never been free. Thay have always had a boot on their backs and a lead around their necks. It’s actually amazing a few sparks of brilliance have managed to escape into the air and shine. Of course, those sparks were mostly from those lucky enough to have been born into the upper feudal ranks; everyone else was stifled, muffled, and trampled. A dreary existence.

“No my kind of Christianity.”

Yes; very strange. They hold ceremonies to bless nuclear weapons and elevate to sainthood a hapless monarch and his domineering German wife and their non-achieving and tragic spawn by the simple accomplishment of being murdered by Bolshevik cutthroats. I’ve read scores of books on the Romanovs over the years and a more tragic group than those five children would be hard to find. They were born to supreme royalty, yet never had a chance to be themselves. They were stifled and pegged and denied any kind of individuality. Truly tragic.

Oh, that debunked claim? Nice one.

It was you Russians saying that’s a reason for Russia to invade early on. Funny how you can’t get the most basic and recent facts correct whatsoever. You’re agenda-blinded.

“Google Vicky Nuland and biolabs in Ukraine. Maybe they haven’t censored her comments, but then again maybe they have.”

There is a HUGE difference between bio labs and bio-WEAPONS labs. For instance, pretty much every college and university has some sort of bio lab for test and research. I mean, it’s what they are for.

“Even when we finally decide to go after a rogue state, we often stop well short of finishing the job. Consider Iraq. After each pounding from US warplanes, Iraq has dusted itself off and gone right back to work developing a nuclear arsenal. We still don’t know what Iraq is up to or whether it has the material to build nuclear weapons.I’m no warmonger. But the fact is, if we decide a strike against Iraq is necessary, it is madness not to carry the mission to its conclusion. When we don’t, we have the worst of all worlds: Iraq remains a threat, and now has more incentive than ever to attack us.”
