Authorities in Tennessee are preparing for the release of police officer body cam footage of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man who died three days after a traffic stop on Jan. 7.
Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis gave an address Wednesday evening and called Nichols’ death "heinous, reckless and inhumane," cautioning people not to react violently after seeing the footage.
"This is not just a professional failing. This is a failing of basic humanity towards another individual," Davis said, saying the five officers and others who were involved in his death "failed our community, and they failed the Nichols family. That is beyond regrettable."
"In the vein of transparency, when the video is released in the coming days, you will see this for yourselves," she added. "I expect you to feel what the Nichols family feels. I expect you to feel outraged by the disregard for basic human rights as our police officers have taken an oath to do the opposite of what transpired on the video."

MPD has fired five (5) officers involved as TBI conducts possible murder investigation on said officers. People I have talked to said, "when America sees this, there will be outrage. It will make the Rodney King video look like he got a foot massage". It is THAT ugly.
Somehow this is the white man’s fault.
I read this article and it almost seems like Davis is priming the pump with her comments.
Pulled over for “reckless driving”...
At least the officers weren’t white.
I haven’t seen the video, but the rumors are it’s bad.
LOL...you win the internets for the day!
The video is very bad and will incite unrest. The fact that the officers are black might mitigate the risk, but that cannot be assumed.
police chief is also black, everyone involved was black

I thought the same. But if it weren’t for body cameras I’m sure she would have said, “Mr. Nichols tried to grab an officer’s gun. He was very violent. We have investigated this incident fully, and found we did nothing wrong.”
Obvious;y White Supremacists.
They were all trained by whites. So, the 5 Black police officers had been systemically subjected to brainwashing to commit heinous crimes against their fellow Black citizens.
There it is…
Has the video been released? Not that I like viewing these sick attacks but I like to know what I’m talking about and coming to a conclusion rather than relying on what people are saying.
“Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis gave an address Wednesday evening and called Nichols’ death “heinous, reckless and inhumane,” cautioning people not to react violently after seeing the footage”
That statement did nothing but make things worse I suspect. SMH
“At least the officers weren’t white”
In the context of rioting it won’t matter.....just another excuse to loot, steal big screen TVs and burn down businesses.
RUMINT at TBI is murder charges for the officers, not manslaughter. I've talked to two (2) CLEOs that saw the video and they said it will make you throw up...and for those of us that have seen a lot, that is NOT good. Paraphrasing a former Army officer I served with now at MPD on the use of force committee(s)/IA :
"It will make the Rodney King video look like he received a foot massage".
FWIW.
Around Memphis people usually drive 20 mph or more over the speed limit. That being said Tyre did not have a criminal history (according to the radio reports). So who knows if he was reckless or simply speeding. He was almost to his house.
There have been complaints about the “Scorpion Unit” of the MPD, the ones that were involved in this incident. BTW, MPD has lowered its standards to attract more officers:
"While attempting to take the suspect into custody, another confrontation occurred; however, the suspect was ultimately apprehended," MPD said. "Afterward the suspect complained of having shortness of breath, at which point an ambulance was called to the scene."
I'll wait until I see the video before making any statements about this case.
