BERLIN, Jan 24 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has decided to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and allow other countries such as Poland to do so while the U.S. may supply Abrams tanks, magazine Spiegel reported on Tuesday. A government spokesperson declined to comment. The defence ministry was not immediately available for comment. The decision concerns at least one company of Leopard 2 A6 tanks that will be provided out of Bundeswehr stocks, Spiegel said.

The tanks all use NATO standard 120mm shells. Recalibrating the range finder, etc., may be an issue but probably not much. A lot of the other systems are probably the same (small number of sources) or are at least compatible like comms.

Maintenance will be a headache, although a lot has been done to modularize components like engines and drivetrains so they can be shipped back and worked on in depot. There are a lot of spare parts for the Leopards in Europe for the 2300 Germany produced. Depot work might be contracted out.

So this war will be over when? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?

When the West runs out of equipment like they planned so Klaus Schwab and the World Enslavement Forum can take over without a fight

The Abrams turbine is multifuel. If it’s warm enough, the Ukrainians might be able to use sunflower oil.

Ukraine ping

Ben Lurkin:

That's a strange thing to claim, given that Hunter worked for (1) the widow of the Mayor of Moscow and (2) Burisma's owner, who worked under Yanukovich, Putin's man in Ukraine *and* another Putin minion, Mykola Azarov. To the extent Biden acted in anyone's interests, it was Putin's, by slow-walking aid to Ukraine. Tens of thousands of Ukrainians have died unnecessarily because of his hesitancy.

Now let’s see about sending F-16’s and A-10’s to Ukraine.

Dutch F-16AM/BM would be the first priority aircraft.

Munitions for the F-16s should include JDAMS, Aim-120, Aim-9X, HARPOONs, HARMs, and LANTIRN pods.

F-16s with Aim-120s and Aim-9s would increase the cruise missile shoot down rate to near 100%.

HARPOONs would give RU pause to launching cruise missiles from submarines.

Now send in the A-10s to reinforce and supplant the diminishing Frogfootflery and F-16s to enable to reach out and touch Russian Su’s and MiGs BVR and you have some combined arms fun in the steppes!

The orcs of Muscovy will bitterly rue the day their king goblin decided to send his unwashed hordes westward.

Well, I have never burned out a jet engine, and I fly aircraft, not tanks, so I will defer to you on this.

What I know is that if you start using different grades of fuel, you effect the temperature and the friction on the bearings and blades. I turbine engine, with compressor turning at about 30,000 rpm has a very tight tolerance on the blade clearance with the hot section housing. Blades grow and shrink in length as the temp goes up and down. To much and things fly apart inside the engine catastrophically.

Another disadvantage with diesel is that at low temperatures it may freeze or form wax crystals blocking filters and stalling engines. This is a problem given aviators fly at altitude under bitterly cold conditions. Jet fuel is manufactured to keep flowing under these circumstances. It can also act as a coolant for the engine oil and maintain clean injector nozzles, avoiding carbon deposits in the severe temperature regime of modern turbine engine design.

Now maybe they build these tank engines at reduced efficiency so there is more tolerance in blade creep. In aircraft, the efficiency is kept high by having tight tolerances, and using the right fuels to keep temps where they need to be.

So this war will be over when? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?

Probably when the Russians are pushed back to near their Feb 2022 lines. Ukraine will probably have to eat the loss of Crimea, but will probably have to accept Ukraine in NATO and the EU.

Russia claims to have raised 300,00 men in the Fall mobilization. The US estimates only 250,000. Most of those are poorly trained, poorly equipped and manning defensive lines with little or no mobility. Putin can try to raise more troops, but its unclear whether he can train and equip them. Putin is trying to grab the rest of the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts by grinding down the UA like he did last summer, but they've gained far less ground this time due to much better UA artillery.

Even the Germans pronounced that the tanks they can provide would be several different variants of the leopard 2. It’s gonna be a tower of babel before they get blown up.

S400 batteries inside Russia will make that very spicy for anyone that tries getting into effective zones for jdam’s. And SEAD missions by NATO warplanes into Russia is very problematic.

Yeah, sure they have. American aircraft are nothing like Soviet frames. And two big glaring problems. Where did they base? Where do they takeoff and land? Because if it’s in Ukraine, that place is going to get annihilated with cruise missiles. If it’s in Poland, that’s NATO attacking Russian forces. And then the few that manage to make it to the air are in S400 range anywhere in the battle areas…
