Is Ukraine a former Soviet occupied country, or is it an original constituent founding member of the USSR?
Reagan said “isn’t it smart to be as strong as the bear?”. Not “go to where it lives and screw around in a menacing manner, occasionally poking it with a stick”.
He’s not the only one. Everyone talking fear of what Russia might or will do is forgetting every angle involved are all at least two way streets. Its not one way Russia wins. Putin is not going to risk Russia’s destruction over Ukraine.

Putin should understand that he was militarily stupid and morally reprehensible to launch a surprise attack against Ukraine, invade a peaceful neighboring country, occupy and annex its territory, kill its citizens, etc.

Has Mr. Hitchens already forgotten that Russia already considers a large percentage of Ukraine to now be "sovereign Russian territory?"
The entire "thrust" of this article by Mr. Hitchens is, "Oh my! Something bad happened! 'Some people did some thing!' But let's not examine who might be at fault! Don’t poke the Bear. I see this cliché ten time daily here. The Russians are so stupid, barbarous and irritating, that it is almost worth sending a ten megaton nuke, hypersonic missile into Moscow. To see how this all sorts out.

NSA that can intercept all Russian comms. And easily locate areas of high cell phone activity. Probably telling the Ukrainian forces these days, where they find mass Russian Army cell phone activity. Then KABOOM!

The Germans said they would send Leopard 2 tanks, as soon as the US sent M1A2 Abrams. Germany does not want to be ground zero for a soviet strike when the supplier of the tanks are blamed for a lot of dead Russians. Putin is crazy like a Mussolini, Hitler or Stalin. The Russian people are being told that NATO is at war with them, That started when HIMARS and advanced artillery were delivered to Ukraine. What happens when the new tanks are hit by the Russian or Chinese equivalent of a Javelin? oops.. MBT’s require daily maintenance and lot of logistical support. Will Ukraine be able to do that? Just some questions whose answers will not be asked for by the “Free Press of the west”.
I’m sure that Vlad has the coordinates for DC, Delaware,NYC,Chicago, Miami, Charlotte, Las Vegas, LA, San Fran.... The Russians also know that if something heads their way, they must use it or lose it when it comes to Nukes. What if the Russians splatter Ukraine with long term persistent chemical weapons? Assassination attempts on heads of states by the CIA were successful only once. They failed on Castro.
And the only successful one was in a democratic country where the people weren’t expecting it. ( I don’t count Allende as his was a “suicide” following a military coup)

This is a headlong rush into escalation. If it is indeed the beginning of Gog-Magog, it will ultimately lead to the substantial destruction of Iran and probably Russia. It may cost the West substantially as well. It seems that it will continue until NATO is officially in it; it’s all but official at this point already.
