Ex-president Donald Trump would easily beat off the challenge of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a Republican primary if it were to be held today, a new poll shows.
The poll, from Harvard CAPS-Harris, and published by The Hill, shows that just under half of GOP voters would favor Trump in the primary.
The former host of The Apprentice would have 48 percent of the vote, giving him a 20 point advantage over DeSantis, considered by many to be the rising star of the Republican party.
Trump's poll numbers have also risen by three per cent in the last month, despite him facing a slew of investigations, and questions as to why the candidates he backed in midterms flopped against their Democrat rivals.
The also-rans in the poll were Trump's former VP Mike Pence, who garnered seven percent, while Florida Senator Marco Rubio and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley received just three percent respectively.

Polling from late last year showed that DeSantis was eating into Trump's popularity, that bump appears to have fizzled

HELLO! DeSantis hasn’t declared anything yet. Then check the polls.
There sure are a lot of polls lately how Trump would slaughter Desantis, but JoeTatoe would slaughter Trump. Yet Desantis would take out JoeTatoe. Pure manipulative BS Polling.
Harvard and The Hill would NEVER try to manipulate anyone, would they!?
DeSantis is not the enemy… The Democrats are the enemy.
It's generating a smooth composite image from the vast image data available on the net.. a kaleidoscopic dump of data and styles.
Here's the one the title of this thread generated.
Drugs are bad, m’kay?
We Conservatives all have much to learn between now and the 24 primaries.
I lean DeSantis at this point, however whomever wins the GOP primary gets my EARLY vote.
Every election going back decades the media have tried to promote the GOP candidate that who is the weakest. (With some success)
Dole, McCain, Romney, Bush over Reagan….etc.
Even Trump was promoted by the media during the 2016 primary. (See Joe and Mika 2015-2016.
This proves to me they see DeSantis as a threat in 2024.
“Ex-president Donald Trump would easily beat off the challenge of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a....”
We’ve beat them off again, sir! (Plan 9 From Outer Space)
Another reason why DeSantis should stay in Florida and continue to be our great governor.
Still not even 50%, with no one else even declared, and him being the former President. Looks like a proverbial ceiling, honestly.
Wild!
This Trump vs. DeSantis thing is going to get a lot of play; it’s all to make us think that voting still matters. Just voot harder!
Trump needs to realize that he is losing support in the Christian and the Prolife community and remedy it now.
Trump said that recent MAGA candidates lost their race because their prolife stance was too rigid. His suggestion was to add exceptions forlegal abortions such as rape and incest.
A better approach would be to add continual care for Mom and baby in all difficult pregnancies.
Trump’s other guffaw was to join the Log Cabin celebration of gay marriage at Mar a Lago.
I think respect for gay people flies with the prolife and Christian voters, but celebrating what does not exist for these same voters won’t sit well. Thrump has some thinking to do.
Again, stop going by wide-open primaries with 10 candidates. Head to head is what really counts.
Misleading.
I THINK DeSantis made a mistake (if he wants to be President) by accepting that 10 million dollar donation from Robert Bigelow. He sold his soul right there just like Kristi Noem sold out to Sanford Health.
The one thing we all love about Trump is NOBODY OWNS HIM!
Then I had it generate from "free republic meme" and the results were astounding!

And here is one of the memes, the web must think FR is strange to generate this as a meme..
