US elder statesman Henry Kissinger said that Russia’s invasion shows there is no longer a point to keeping Ukraine out of Nato, the long-held aspiration of Kyiv that he had opposed.
The 99-year-old former secretary of state and apostle of realpolitik has for months advocated a ceasefire in the Ukraine war that would in effect accept some military gains by Russia.
But speaking virtually to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Kissinger said that Nato membership for Ukraine would be an “appropriate outcome”.
“Before this war, I was opposed to membership of Ukraine in Nato because I feared that it would start exactly the process that we have seen now,” Kissinger said.
“Now that this process has reached this level, the idea of a neutral Ukraine under these conditions is no longer meaningful,” said Kissinger, speaking before a bookcase with a framed picture of president Richard Nixon, under whom he served.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had described Ukraine’s Nato’s aspirations as a threat as he justified the invasion launched on February 24 last year.

I’m the one who delighted that you wasted so much time proving my point - that the Daily Mail is not a source for hard news.
I hope you post it on every Zeeper thread!
I still hear Reeeeing, but not a single refutation of a single paragraph!
"Today, on the unfortunate one-year mark of Putlim's criminal aggression against a sovereign state neighbor, NATO would like to welcome their 3 newest members: Sweden, Finland, and the Ukraine! I ask Professor Kissinger standing next to me, who has been instrumental in this task -- even now in his century year -- to do the honors." -- February 24, 2023
Schadenfreude!
Yet still not a single refutation of any of the 22 paragraphs.
Just more Reeeeeing!
“Why would I care what you think? You’re just a drive-by sniper.”
In your dreams.
Gosh, still no refutation!
But lots of reeeeeing!
“I just don’t see the Nazis prevailing long-term, even without our involvement.”
I think the original question was just the Germans and the Soviets fighting it out; with no one else involved. In a war between those two countries, in the early 1940s; Germany would have won.
Remember, between September, 1939 and June, 1941, Germany suffered no land defeats in Europe at all. Hell, in 1939 France had the largest army in Europe; but a year later Germany defeated France in just six weeks! Poland, being invaded by BOTH Germany and the USSR in 1939, held out ALONE longer than France did in 1940 fighting only an invasion by Germany; and France had British forces fighting alongside it!
In 1939, 1940, and 1941, NO ONE, alone, could have defeated Germany in Europe. Only Britain could have put up much of a fight, and at that it would not have defeated Germany. Britain in WWII could only have won by not losing. That is exactly the position Ukraine is in today: It has no chance of defeating Russia, much less conquering it. But, Ukraine wins by not losing.
But if Moscow, and the Russian SSR had fallen, so would have the USSR. The eastern republics had no affection for Moscow or Russia at all (and, incidentally, neither did the Ukrainians.) Indeed, when Germany invaded the USSR in June, 1941 the Ukrainians welcomed the Germans as liberators! Until they discovered that the Germans were no better than the Russians.
Weirdo.
See my post #68.
Not going to bother.
Get a life, weirdo.

USA should only send to Ukraine:
- electrical generating equipment
- medical supplies
- temporary shelter supplies
Immediate Cease Fire
Ukraine keeps the land that it presently holds.
Russia keeps the Crimea.
In addition:
a) Russia maintains Kherson territory east of the Dnieper River that consists of a “shortest route possible land bridge” strip thru Kherson, connecting the Crimea directly to Russia
b) the remaining, presently contested Ukrainian terrority along the border with Russia, that Ukraine has not able to hold, becomes a DE-MILITARIZED ZONE where the Ukraine citizenry can return to, for agricultural activity and support
c) administration and governance of the UKRAINE DE-MILITARIZED ZONE becomes the work of both Ukraine and Russia as neighbors, helping each other to learn how to get along
d) Ukraine does not join NATO
e) Russia surrenders its grip on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant
f) Russia withdraws from Georgia and from all land that Russia seized from Georgia, since the Russian invasion of 2008.
EPE, you’re confusing a puffer, who gives exaggerated or unwarranted praise, with a “fluffer” which is something else.
There are 3 main deep-states in the world:
The American version
Works in secrecy. Made Trump loose the election.
The Russian Neo-soviet version
Works openly. It has already banned opposition parties, allowing only pro-state media and has forbidden free speech.
The Chinese version
Works openly. Seeks world wide absolute power using stealing and capitalism as a tool against its competitors. Ultimate goal : strengthen communist ideology and control.
Looks like you’d be good at diplomacy. Your post makes more sense than anything either Russia or Ukraine have brought to the table and there’s even a small amount of negotiable wiggle-room.
EPE is not very bright. As is obvious from his posts.
I don’t know. I thought he was dead ten years ago.

“Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili insists the future Ukraine peace deal should also address the withdrawal of Russian troops from occupied Georgian territory, namely South Ossetia and Abkhazia. “Russia has to learn where its borders are.”
