WASHINGTON, D.C. -- For the first time in Gallup’s two-decade trend, less than half of Americans are complimentary about the quality of U.S. healthcare, with 48% rating it “excellent” or “good.” The slight majority now rate healthcare quality as subpar, including 31% saying it is “only fair” and 21% -- a new high -- calling it “poor.”
The latest excellent/good rating for U.S. healthcare quality is just two percentage points lower than in 2021; however, it is well below the 62% high point twice recorded in the early 2010s. It also trails the average 55% reading since 2001.
These findings are from Gallup’s annual Health and Healthcare survey. The latest update was conducted Nov. 9-Dec. 2, 2022.
A key reason views of U.S. healthcare quality have been trending downward in recent years is that Republicans’ positive ratings have been subdued since President Donald Trump left office. Currently, 56% of Republicans rate healthcare quality as excellent or good, whereas 69% felt this way in 2020 and 75% in 2019. Republicans’ views of healthcare quality also dropped in 2014 after implementation of the Affordable Care Act before rebounding under Trump. Meanwhile, Democrats’ positive ratings have been steady at a lower level (currently 44%).

Of course those same folks arent realizing its the governments previous “fixes” that have the system on the downward spiral.
I am currently almost completely under the care of several ‘ologists.
A Cardiologist, a superduper Cardiologist, a Urologist and 2 Oncologists. I also have a Primary Care Doctor, who seems to be there only to prescribe pills and act as a broker referring patients to ‘ologist.
What’s missing in that lineup?
A General Practitioner. Something that seems to have completly disappeared from American medicine.
They’re trying to kill as many as possible now.
This can be done. Since I retired in July 2020, I have no health insurance. I had an infected ingrown toenail and I went to the local clinic and paid cash to have it treated. It cost a goodly chunk, but when I added up what I would have paid for even a simple health care insurance plan, I still saved money.
Of course, something could happen someday to make me sorry I don't have health insurance, but... maybe not. I've heard so many stories of insurance companies screwing people over, half your treatment is "not covered" or one of the people who helped treat you was "not in our network" that it seems like insurance isn't necessarily the safety net it was supposed to be. It seems now more like a scam.
Sounds like teaching, only maybe even a touch worse.
Who needs a doctor? All they do is follow CDC guidelines.
I’d rather get self-directed lab results and trust the internet.
So true! People don’t realize the amazing ability of the body to heal itself. Many ailments can be “cured” by lifestyle changes instead of a magic pill. The magic pill magically causes other medical issues that require another magic pill.
Now the system owns you. You have become a revenue stream.
It’s a confluence of big pharma, wokeness, heavy-handed insurance, and government/pharma/big tech/media COVID fraud that has destroyed American’s trust in healthcare. It’s really a perfect storm.
And like the mainstream media’s self-imposed implosion, it will be extremely difficult to gain that trust back…
Sounds about right.
Arrogant, close minded, and greedy.
You know, you might just learn something from Google one day. I know I have, and I’ve been told by many people I might be a pretty smart fella myself. Maybe even smarter than a few doctors out there, who knows.
Google has even told me that not everyone who even had a certificate on their wall, was even an actual doctor. either. You probably never heard of such a thing, though, living in your little bubble, and all. Unless you happened to have some first hand experience, of course.
Doctors are baffled.
Speaking of relying on the system….
“American fashion designer mom who lived in China for 16 years says she MISSES how Communist government ‘co-parented’ her children - dictating even what they should eat - and wants U.S. to learn from its example”
The one party system, like the CCP, is coming!
I will say after the Covid fiasco my opinion of the healthcare industry has taken a very sharp dive.
Then she needs to move back to China.
When money supersedes patients as the priority, this is the outcome.
I have experienced that as well.
Well said.
There was a day when they chose to start wearing white lab jackets to improve their image and create an air of confidence. They will need another gimmick and a better extended track record to revive their profession.
if u tire of dr. google, perhaps you should take it as a hint that your system of treatments and care plans assume incorrect root causes and dont addres the real issue.
Your reliance on debunked medical studies, unearned arrogance, self-righteousness and misplaced over confidence is what is fueling dr. google.
LOL.
Many an aerospace and mechanical engineering student of my day who failed out was able to be quite successful in the medical school program at the U of MN.
Plenty of elderly had already been brought up. But if you look at the photos of those coming up today, you won’t find elderly. They couldn’t endure the journey.
