I would not indict or convict him.

He took out the trash. End of story.

It is not necessarily a net gain for society to have vigilante justice...

I would say that vigilante justice turns into a net loss. It tends to evolve into ethnic vendettas over time.

That is why police departments and criminal courts were organized in the first place. They are supposed to prevent escalation of violence in a community. "It's bad for business".

Our problem these days is that the police and courts are failing to be effective at that role. A reversion to earlier systems is the result.

He was sacred shitless of that Trooper.

Neighbor knew that Trooper also personally.

The guys who did the shooting passed away, that is how he figured out who did it.

It needed to be done.

St Joe and Maryville were all stirred up about it I guess.

GD there are some real great country folks round there.

Neighbor and I have our board meeting at 4 every day here. Two beers and a hell of a lot of Bull.
They are snowbirds.

extending that policy to allow common citizens to do the same

Any rights or authority the uniformed public servants have are delegated to them by, and originate with, We the People. Morally, we reserve the right to take them back into our own hands. As a juror, I will not indict or convict a citizen for taking out the trash.

Lots of roving gangs out there.....they are looking for someone who is playing the odds who think that scaring away a perp is the end of a matter....but who are actually setting the victim up to be bushwhacked....
I’d rather look silly because I don’t expect a crook to be honorable and leave the scene than be dead cause the crook had accomplices. Sometimes gangs want a new recruit to kill someone to prove the newbies sincerity. It’s not a fair and honest world.
I once asked a policeman about the issue of using a gun if attacked in my home if an intruder came in. He said, if your fear for your life use the gun. It’s better to be tried by 12 than carried by six. Thanks for your reply....

One of the guys I worked with had a dad nearly 100 who was still out driving and not too sedately. That is how I met the trooper. He would come by the office my buddy owned and sternly warn Al that he had to get his dad’s car away from him and keep him from driving. The second visit he told us about feeling he was finally going to soon get McElroy, who my co-worker knew of from a lifetime in the area. When the trooper left, Al told me that the guy he was after was a vile relentless thief who everyone in that county hated. A couple of months later, it was over and done.

I agree. But consider that car and house thieves can get into your property quite easily. So it is a bit open. The law enforcement is at least two or three minutes away. Enough time for the criminal to carry out his plans. Once I had to call 911. They answered with a machine and said they were too busy at this time..please call back later.

Try not to equate being accosted by someone trying to steal your car and you defend yourself in an unknown and hostile environment with someone who just decides to go shoot someone cause they didn’t like the color match of the shirt and shoes of the victim.... can’t always generalize a specific.
Freegards and I hope you never have to face a situation like Mr. Kress.

Here’s the common sense test to see if armed force is required.

If someone was stealing gov’t property would the gov’t be allowed to shoot that person? If so then it shouldn’t be a crime for the average citizen.

"Missouri law states that a person can use deadly force for self-defense but not to protect one’s property."

Missouri is such an assholean state on this issue.

But if the pg was running away and he chased after him and killed him that is not good for him if he was running away and was no longer a threat to him personally.

As far as I’m concerned, the man did what needed to be done.
Dead criminals don’t steal cars.
