Putin ally Medvedev warns NATO of nuclear war if Russia is defeated in Ukraine

MOSCOW (Reuters) -Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, an ally of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, warned NATO on Thursday that the defeat of Russia in Ukraine could trigger a nuclear war.

Striking a similar tone at what he described as an anxious time for the country, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church said trying to destroy Russia would mean the end of the world.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, Medvedev has repeatedly raised the threat of a nuclear apocalypse, but his admission now of the possibility of Russia's defeat indicates the level of Moscow's concern over increased Western weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

"The defeat of a nuclear power in a conventional war may trigger a nuclear war," Medvedev, who serves as deputy chairman of Putin's powerful security council, said in a post on Telegram.

"Nuclear powers have never lost major conflicts on which their fate depends," said Medvedev, who served as president from 2008 to 2012.

Nukes. The geo-political equivalent of whining “I’m gonna get my Dad” on the playground.

[a nuclear war]

Oh good. That should provide 1) a Great Reset 2) Population Reduction and 3) and excuses for nations deeply in debt. Too bad about that Global Warming thing getting worse.

Russia isn’t going to lose so I wouldn’t worry about it. NATO and the USA I would worry about using them if they lose.

""Nuclear powers have never lost major conflicts on which their fate depends,"

WTF?

The United States lost to Vietnam... To Afghanistan (because of Trump and Biden's capitulation.) and to England in 1812.

The Russian's lost to Afghanistan and to the allies during the 'cold war'.

So... Yes... Nuclear powers have lost wars and Russia will lose to the Ukraine and Medvedev and Putin will lose their heads... Or maybe they'll just be shot.

As for the head of their 'orthodox' church... God has a place for him and with the help of an assassin, maybe he'll get their sooner rather than later.

I’ll jump in here to agree to your point and make another.

Although many here are just plain ignorant of what is really happening, all reporting can’t be ignored as anti Russian propaganda. There are reports that the precise location of Putin and probably of Medvedev are known by tracking all communications. A Russian Nuclear attack would result in a very quick response eliminating the leader ordering the attack

He qualified his response by saying “ lost a war on which their fate depends .” Now how losing a war you started by invading a neighbor threatens your fate when losing simply means your troops return to the Rodina is a question he should be asked.

I would be really hesitant to play any game where if I lose the bet I would be instantly vaporized.

The whole world has been playing nuclear poker since 1945. The only sure thing there is no backing out, you play. The game goes on.

Things must not be going so well for the orcs. A couple hundred thousand new conscripts and far less ground gained than last summer's offensives.

Loss of Ukraine is not an existential threat to Russia, since they lived with an independent Ukraine for 23 years.

Completely different world, we used a new unknown WWII weapon and the world then started working on what the new power was and what it could become, the world then pursued generations of treaties and international agreements to lock it away from usage.

Now your man is threatening to introduce nuclear weapons as a routine weapon to use while invading other countries.

Russia is normalizing nuclear weapons.

Makes sense. Russia f***s up what looks to be mismatch against a much smaller neighbor. After getting its a$$ kicked by a 100 pound (that’s seven stone in metric) weakling, it threatens the buff 260 pound intercontinental giant on the next barstool.

Sod off, tosser.

Hard to bluff when you're showing a busted straight and four suits.

Here are Trump’s thoughts on Putin’s constant nuclear threats.

“Look, Stuart, when he goes in and he kills thousands of people are we going to just sit by and watch?

This country will be in 100 years from now they will be talking about what a travesty, a horrible thing this is. We can’t let that, just on a human basis we can’t let that happen, and then he says that there are nuclear power but we’re a greater nuclear power.

I hated to do it, but I rebuilt our nuclear capability like nobody has ever thought even possible. $2.5 trillion in our military, and a big chunk of it went to nuclear and we’re doing it. We had 45-year-old and 50- year-old weapons that we didn’t even know if they worked and now we have brand new stuff that’s immensely powerful and hope to god you never have to use it because it be , that be the tragedy of all tragedies

But if we didn’t have it we couldn’t talk but I listened to him constantly using the n word , that’s the n word, and he’s constantly using it. The nuclear word, and we never talk, we say oh, he’s a nuclear power, but we’re a greater nuclear power.

We have the greatest submarines in the world, most powerful machines ever built, most powerful and they got built under me. Most powerful machines ever built and nobody knows where they are and

You should say look , if you mention that word, one more time, we’re going to send them over and we’ll be coasting back and forth up and down your coast. You can’t let this tragedy continue. You can’t let these thousands of people die. It’s going to be hundreds of thousands and maybe millions of people by the time it ends.”
