Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian army to increase the number of service members to 1.5 million from 2023 to 2026, according to a briefing of Russia's defense ministry.
Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu last mentioned the goal of expanding the army from 1 million to 1.5 million, including 695,000 contracted soldiers, during a Dec. 21 meeting with Putin and his defense chiefs.
According to the Russian defense ministry's Telegram channel, there are plans to create additional divisions, corps and military districts, as well as strengthen existing ones.

Whatever Jim decides to do with these threads, I could care less. In the end I will still be a staunch opponent against war, unless and until it endangers America and our national interests.
I said much the same thing: I support Ukraine defending itself against an unwarranted invasion by a bigger and stronger neighbor. I support the Ukrainian people defending themselves REGARDLESS who their president is; who their president is, to me, immaterial.
Jon Preston is just a provocateur. And a pretty poor one, at that. That’s why it’s entertaining to yank his chain. He generally responds with his standard default: “Hush!”
It's forum etiquette to ping a member to a thread when discussing him.
Forgive me fraud, is it 1999 or 2023?
Now you want to argue something you believe NATO did wrong in 1999.
I don't want to argue it, I want to put facts regarding NATO aggression under your ample nose in hopes that a light goes on. Some say educating you is a hopeless cause, and I'm understanding why.
Agree with you FRiend. We might disagree on some things, but those things you point out we should and do agree on.
Thank you!
It is clear Vlad has been planning since the beginning for NATO intervention or escalation. He would be a fool to trust the collective West. Deploying only 15 percent of his military for the SMO was prudent, increasing his military to counter the possibility of Nato escalation is wise.
“US confirms Donald Trump’s push to move troops east with Poland signing”
Trump was correct in placing our American NATO GIs closer to the enemy threat.
yes he would. Both Angela Merkel and then-French President François Hollande now admit the Minsk agreement was a ruse, to give Ukraine time to weaponize.
God help Nato if the Russians attack between Saturday and Monday. They’ll all be stoned and hung over until Tuesday.
“William has left in search of more Biden talking points.”
And you’re still here regurgitating the latest nonsense from your employers at the Kremlin.
Also, it’s rude to directly mention another FReeper and not ping them to the message.
My comment was to you, not Williams. See how this works?
“It’s forum etiquette to ping a member to a thread when discussing him.”
Since when have you followed forum etiquette?
In any event, you obviously read my comment, so you can’t claim ignorance of it.
This comment, the one where you acknowledge to being a troll?
"That’s why it’s entertaining to yank his chain."
“My comment was to you, not Williams. See how this works?”
Again, the accepted norm around here is that if you mention someone by name in a post then you ping them to that post as a courtesy.
Not that you’d know anything about courtesy.
I support NATO.
You don’t. Your choice.
I support America.
Had he not invaded Ukraine in the first place he wouldn’t have to concern himself about what NATO would or would not do. He set the ball rolling (A), so should not be surprised if it rolls back to him (B). B is a consequence of A. Remove A, and there is no B.
They are talking about the RGF and maybe the Naval Infantry, not the Nationals Guard, or VKS.
The RGF in Jan 2021 was around 260,000 professional, the Naval Infantry around 20,000. The National Guard was around 350,000 with most used for guarding borders and such like and cannot be spared in bulk for Ukraine.
Conscripts don’t count.
No you don’t but again that’s your choice.
America has been in NATO approx 75 years. America is opposing Russian aggression.
You don’t support America.
