Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian army to increase the number of service members to 1.5 million from 2023 to 2026, according to a briefing of Russia's defense ministry.
Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu last mentioned the goal of expanding the army from 1 million to 1.5 million, including 695,000 contracted soldiers, during a Dec. 21 meeting with Putin and his defense chiefs.
According to the Russian defense ministry's Telegram channel, there are plans to create additional divisions, corps and military districts, as well as strengthen existing ones.

Before you go too far, remember that the United States is the largest single component of NATO and that means, you and I, Americans, are also part of it.
I don’t believe in “my country, right or wrong”, but on the other hand, I don’t want to be part of causing a military loss to my country, either, nor think it should lose.
You should work to have the United States withdraw from the NATO alliance if you think membership for us is wrong.
Short of that, you are in it.
The Ukraine isn’t a part of NATO and it’s not a NATO fight. If NATO involves themselves, I oppose it and I’ll speak out against it, like a good American.

Russia is at war, and not doing so well. Of course Russia is going to expand the size of its forces. Russia can’t win with what they’ve got, so they are going to the bench. Only makes sense. And if Russia wants to continue this war, growing its forces is a no-brainer.
