Republican Rep. Rick Allen of Georgia suggested last week that he would support raising the Social Security retirement age—a policy change that would slash benefits across the board—because people have approached him and said they “actually want to work longer.”
Confronted by an advocate in the Capitol Building and asked how the GOP plans to cut Social Security, the congressman responded, “We’re not going to cut Social Security.”
But seconds later, Allen contradicted himself by expressing support for raising the retirement age, saying the move would “solve every one of these problems”—not specifying what the “problems” are from his perspective.

I think my wife is the town historian. Everyone contacts her because her mother documented everything. We have done some work with familysearch.org and I would like to do more. We have a local museum but getting connected is like getting a Top Security Clearance because the former manager embezzled everything he could during Covid.
There is a Youtube video of a radio show from the 1950’s and my dad is on it so I can hear his voice whenever I like. I agree it is special to find those things.
Yes they do.🤨
Social Security is not the problem, it health care costs rising, it now 20% of GDP instead of about 5%. Medicare will have to be cut or we will see a collapse. Health Care costs now exceed 1/3 of the Federal Budget and continue to climb. No one in either political party wants to deal with this.
Last time I checked years ago SSDI was 25% of SS payouts and the payout ages are much less than SS.
I use netting on my plants...and that worked.
We HAVE to work longer - because of the Biden economy. No one WANTS to work longer.
Having a job sitting on your butt all day is doable, but people like me who do manual labor, would be a problem
I got forcibly laid off at 77. I would have worked for at least another year maybe two.

Well, Congressman, instead of giving (either intentionally like Lindsey Graham or STUPIDLY like other naïve Republicans) DemocRATS ammunition they can use in campaigns start THINKING! For those who want to delay applying for Social Security past age 70, how about proposing changing the law to allow their benefit to continue increasing past age 70 where the “delayed retirement credit” currently STOPS increasing with further delay in applying for Social Security.
And other posters are correct… many folks like their work and would like to continue working.
A lot depends, just as much as your savings, on how much you plan or are required to spend each month. My needs and wants are few.
See my #55.
Yes you can
Yes, it’s just another DNC media shill regurg’ing talking points.
I’m really getting into ‘Forged in Fire’.
I wish I had my own place so I could make knifemaking a hobby.
“Translation: We can afford to pay for trillions for schooling, welfare, hospitals illegals and hundreds of billions for Zelensky’s wish list. But not for American citizens on Social Security.”
Does not mean that at all.
Unless soc sec and medicare are to be allowed to eat into and become most of the federal budget from general tax revenues, changes and adjustments to soc sec and medicare have be made.
As far as the general federal budget and the purpose of general tax revenues, massive cuts in spending should be made, regardless of and irrespective of needed changes to soc sec finances and financing.
You're thinking is upside down. The federal porkulus should never be allowed to dip into SS revenues to shore up its bloated budget to pay for trillions for schooling, welfare, hospitals illegals and hundreds of billions for Zelensky’s wish list. The deep state needs to be defunded as well.
Some people do not get a lot of SS. They have to find part time work.
GOP should know by now that this is a good way to justify losing. LOL
Perhaps they could reduce welfare or deny illegals benefits. Stop refugee influx, quit sending billions to Ukraine, quit giving themselves large COLA raises. You know, stuff like that.
