At Least 80 Illinois County Sheriffs Will Refuse to Enforce State's New Gun Laws
PJ Media ^ | 01/15/2023 | Rick Moran

At least 80 county sheriffs and prosecutors have vowed not to enforce the new Illinois gun control law that bans 170 kinds of semi-automatic rifles and places limits on ammunition magazines.

“The right to keep and bear arms for defense of life, liberty and property is regarded as an inalienable right by the people,” said Iroquois County Sheriff Clinton Perzee. “I, among many others, believe that [House Bill 5471] is a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution,” he added.

Perzee said he would not use his jail to detain people solely for violating the new gun law.

“[N]either myself nor my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State, nor will we be arresting or housing law abiding individuals that have been arrested solely with non-compliance of this Act,” Perzee said.

Governor J.B. Pritzker reminded the sheriffs that they took an oath to uphold the law. “As law enforcement, that’s their job and I expect them to do that job,” Pritzker said.

“It’s political grandstanding by elected officials. These are elected sheriffs,” Pritzker said during an evening interview with MSNBC.

Illinois gun rights groups are lining up to sue the state over the law. The “Protect Illinois Communities Act” bans 170 brands of semi-automatic rifles, limits ammunition magazines in pistols and rifles, and forces those with legal semi-automatic rifles to register their guns by Jan. 1, 2024.

——lawful gun owners ——

That phrase begs the question. Who is a lawful gun owner?

How can the government differentiate between a gun owner and a gun possessor?

The governor should listen to his own advice. Stop signing unconstitutional legislation.

They get the feather after the local cops and the state police effectively stop enforcing such laws because they are being shot at too often. If the guard, and in the case of Illinois it would be the heavily black and woke ANG from Chicagoland that would be used down state, start using heavy weapons and mass armored up attacks then the future would be really grim as a virtual civil war would ensue down state and in Egypt. Remeber at least 500 men from Egypt served in the Confederate Army and there were UCV posts in Egypt.

"..Governor J.B. Pritzker reminded the sheriffs that they took an oath to uphold the law..."

Yeah. And didn't Prickster take an oath to defend the constitution when he took office?

It looks like a wise decision on the part of the sheriffs. The Supreme Court will stop the ban.

This is good so far as the sheriffs go, but what about the State Police and municipal police departments, which latter probably have jurisdiction over, what, 95% of the IL population?

***At least 80 Sheriffs wont comply.***

California sheriffs said the same thing back in 1989. The state still has the onerous gun law.

County sheriffs are usually elected and don’t answer to local mayors, etc.

I believe you have hinted at a key vulnerability here. The County Sheriffs may refuse to enforce what they assess as an unconstitutional law. The local mayors and city councilmen cannot overrule them.

But "Police Chiefs are appointed, not elected". Those municipal and special district police organizations are going to do what the Mayor or City Councilmen tell them to do. If they don't, they will be replaced.

What are the directions the Mayors and Councilmen of various towns are going to give to their police departments? Have there been any statements of support for the Sheriffs?

#10: There are three counties that say they'll actively enforce it: Cook (Chicago & surrounding suburbs), Lake and Champaign.

This law is directed at White law abiding citizens, i.e.. exactly those who do not contribute the violent crime. These laws are an attempt to geld and control White citizens. Negroes have nothing to fear.

I cannot argue with you about that, the gangbangers in Chicago are getting their weapons from fellow gangbangers / family members of gang bangers in Indiana and Kentucky, so none of them are (a)legally acquired; (b)in the hands of a legal gun owner; (c)going to be "certified" (registered) or (d)turned in for being illegal.

So this unConstitutional law which will be overturned, will do ANYTHING to stop the murders and crime.

In fact, Tammy Duckworth (D) said on "Flannery Fired Up" this morning that the law will likely do nothing to stop crime since the gang bangers get their weapons in IN and KY anyway.

So, she herself knows the "law" is worthless and still, she advocated for "National Firarm Onwer ID Cards" like IL has -- which are on the verge themselves of being declared unConstitutional.

With respect to Duckworth's service, she's not very smart.

Correction: So this unConstitutional law which will be overturned, will NOT do ANYTHING to stop the murders and crime.

Your question allows me to launch this complete tangent: I see this in news reports from much of the eastern part of the country, where states have these vast number of counties. Made sense I suppose with transportation in the old days and difficulty of getting to the county seat. But is so many additional governments really desirable now? Here in massive California we only have 58

They’ll have the same in Illinois, too.

Doesn’t mean the sheriffs are doing anything.

“California sheriffs said the same thing back in 1989. The state still has the onerous gun law.”

And in 2014, Connecticutt demanded all citizens to turn in their “assault” rifles. They didn’t and still own them.

The sheriffs have the authority to arrest them all ...

Then they will need to start doing that.

Power that is never used is not real.
