A sign of the media times is how quickly our leading progressive organs rally to deny that Democrats are doing what Democrats really are doing. A classic example was this week’s flare up in the coming climate war over banning gas stoves.
A Biden appointee on the Consumer Product Safety Commission explicitly threatened to ban gas stoves based on dubious evidence of public-health harm. “This is a hidden hazard,” said commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. “Any option is on the table. Products that can’t be made safe can be banned.”
We and others criticized the idea, and the media response was to rush to blame conservatives for starting it all. “Right’s new fight: Gas stoves,” said Axios, which pushes hard for the climate alarmist agenda. The Washington Post assured its readers that “regulators have no plans to ban gas stoves, but Republicans are slamming the Consumer Product Safety Commission for announcing it will examine the health impacts of the appliances.”
But we didn’t make up Mr. Trumka’s quote. We and others responded to it. After withering public criticism, including by Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, the CPSC Chairman denied any plan to ban, and the White House said President Biden also doesn’t want to ban gas stoves. But that’s cold comfort given that the climate left does want to ban them, and progressive cities and states are doing it.
Progressive cities such as Berkeley, San Francisco and New York City have already banned gas stoves and other appliances in new buildings. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul this week proposed a ban on gas equipment including stoves in new small buildings in 2025 and larger ones in 2028.
Come 2030, New Yorkers won’t be allowed to replace their gas stoves with new ones if they break down.

EXISTING power poles-—all across the USA-—cannot carry the load this will require.
IF you think a “GROUND STOP” for all aviation is severe disruption——
THINK about a COMPLETE SHUTDOWN of electric power-—and nothing else available.
THAT IS THEIR ULTIMATE DESIRE-—COMPLETE CONTROL.
This is also an attack on rural and off-grid Americans. This would not just impact natural gas, it would also roll up propane. It’s just part of the broader strategy to force people back into more urban locations.
Booze can lead to health issues; cars can cause accidents. Using that logic, should we ban them? What about the movement afoot to legalize drugs? All of the above are more dangerous than gas stoves. This is really about climate change dressed up in asthmatic sheep clothing narrative.
Common electric resistance stoves are poor replacements for gas stoves. They take a lot longer to heat up and they stay heated up much longer after they are turned down or off.
Anybody who is serious about cooking will have to switch to induction stoves, which are actually close to gas in their performance. So what do those cooks have to look forward to?
First off, induction ranges cost twice as much as gas ranges.
Second, if a building is switching over from gas to induction, a new 220 volt, 50 amp circuit will have to be added -- that is, if the building's electrical supply can handle it. If not, an new service drop or service lateral line will need to be added -- that is, if the electrical grid can handle it. If not, the grid will need to be bolstered for that application and for all the tens of thousands of other gas-to-electric conversions in the city -- that is, if the electrical generation is sufficient. If not, new electrical generators will have to be added.
After all this, the cooks will then have to replace all of their non-ferrous cookware.
It was no coincidence that all the commies greenocrats came out with the “protect the children from evil gas stoves.”
Commie cities have already announced they are banning all new gas infrastructure. Green cronies are funding all this crap. I would love to see how much GE, Vestas, LG, and all the other “green” energy companies are pouring in to this propaganda. .
It’s the corrupt Teamster’s Union’s son, Trumpka Jr. He knows nothing about anything, so he’s 100% qualified, like Rear Admiral Petey Butt-Boy.
The worst purchase I ever made, was an electric stove in our new house. It is ALFUL! You cannot cook with a wok on it, the surface is a mess no matter how you try to clean it. Bad purchase.
Nobody needs that many burners and how many racks does it have? It has no use in a civilized society and must be banned. It’s kind of scary in black too.
Or, "Want chicken? Get Doordash or Grubhub!"
They banned new gas appliances in new homes in Seattle years ago and then in other cities around the state, too. They do it through the building codes. They just ban natural gas to the houses, so no gas heat or gas fireplaces, either. It doesn’t matter much in Seattle, one way or the other, but the wokesters in Bellingham didn’t complain a bit.
“...everything to do with control. With electricity they can throw a switch and shut you down’’’”
