A seasoned prosecutor who served in the Trump administration will act as special counsel to look into President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents.
Robert K Hur was appointed in 2018 by Mr Trump as the chief federal law enforcement officer in Maryland.
He left that position when President Trump left office in 2021.
The US Department of Justice appoints special counsels when an investigation poses potential conflicts of interest.
On Thursday, US Attorney General Merrick Garland said it was "in the public interest" to appoint a special counsel to oversee the inquiry into Mr Biden.

According to several on Bannon’s show today, he’s one of the main swamp critters behind the criminal actions of the FBI while Trump was President.
Apparently this guy was Rod Rosenstein’s right hand man, and lied to the face of Devin Nunes and others who were trying to get to the bottom of the corruption.
Gorka said Jordan should set him up to the be the first one who has to testify about government corruption before that new committee.

He was given a list of acceptable nominees.
The special counsel law was abolished decades ago and yet we still have AGs appointing them. It was abolished because SCs have always been out of control as first demonstrated with Lawrence “Iran Contra” Walsh and every one thereafter. When one is appointed they will always find someone to prosecute in order to justify the millions in fees that will be spent on salaries, FBI etc.
