New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, during her state of the state address Monday, announced plans to ban gas heating on the construction of new buildings over the next several years.
Speaking to the state legislature in Albany, Hochul acknowledged soaring energy costs foot by homeowners and renters across the state, indirectly citing the Russia-Ukraine war in remarking on the "geopolitical forces outside our control but hitting our wallets right here at home."
Arguing the homes in New York are some of the oldest in the nation, leaving them poorly insulated, the governor, elected to her first full term in November after taking over the helm from disgraced predecessor Andrew Cuomo, said buildings are the largest source of greenhouse emissions in the state, accounting for one third of our greenhouse gas output.
"I’m proposing a plan to end the sale of new fossil powered heating equipment by 2030 by calling for construction of – all new construction needs to be zero emission – starting in 2025 for small buildings and 2028 for large buildings," Hochul said. "And we’re taking these steps now because climate change remains the greatest threat to our planet but also to our children and our grandchildren."

Dangit! Stop sending Yankees down to FL.
And the people of NY will just sit back and let these communists do whatever they want. Even the local media will not challenge it. Zombies marching onto death.
Restaurants can’t use electric stoves. Too slow and they cook unevenly.
And when the power goes out how does she propose that people keep warm?? These people are numbskulls, pure and simple. Either that, or they are vile and evil like serial killers are.
Only electric heating and cooking and vehicle charging? The sun had better be shining and wind had better be blowing to support this foolishness. There will be many dark days ahead for BLM and Antifa to do their dark deeds.
It’s not just her.
You’ll note our legislature has rubber stamped it.
My bet is NYS’s elections were just as rigged as AZ’s.
Every red state in the nation is one stolen election from NYS.
Something it would behoove people to keep in mind.
And after 2030, it’s not just new homes.
Wait till all the pipes freeze next grid outage.
I vill tell you how to live!
I vill tell you what to eat!
I vill tell you what to think!
Sieg heil!
She doesn’t cook but will need an ELECTRIC can opener when the lights are off.
I was born in NY...but I let within 30 days. Glad of it, too - who wants to live in a schitwhole state like NY? Now proudly residing in Texas, Free America.
My house is all electric. It got very cold earlier this week when the power went out for four hours.
I had to take out — wait for it — my camping gas cook stove — to make myself some tea…
Democrats lack all ability to foresee consequences. Here’s a phrase that I engineered systems by for over 35 years: no single point of failure. These morons are pushing everything onto the electric grid; cars, trucks, buses, trains, even planes, and now furnaces and appliances. No more gasoline. No more oil. No more natural gas. No more coal. No more wood. Everything slammed on a single point of failure: the electricity grid.
Do you ever hear them talk about the sequence and expense of upgrading the electric grid before increasing electricity demand? How many power plants are being built? You know, the ones that work at night when there is no wind.
Come to think of it, they are not morons. This is intentional. They know green technology never meets their holy grail of carbon neutrality. They don’t want to fix the grid. They want failure. They want brown and blackouts so the can “save” the people from a “crisis”. Don’t let any manufactured crisis go to waste.
And when the grid goes down because of all the added electrical stuff, then what? Will she have more infrastructure to handle all that? Where does she think the power will come from?
People have forgotten (or maybe never knew) that attack on natural gas for home use and many industrial uses first was employed during the days of the Carter Administration. At the time there were a number of lawn gaslights powered by natural gas in people’s front yards, which were simply lit and remained burning day and night, shedding a soft ambience to many neighborhoods. But Jimmy said they had to be turned off, for some arcane reason (nothing to do with global warming at the time), and until the lampposts were rewired for incandescent bulbs (remember them?) no light could be showing in front yards. The Playboy Club in downtown Chicago had a powerful gas-fired spotlight that served as a guide for approaching aircraft coming in at night to both O’Hare and Midway airports, and could be readily identified at least fifty miles out. That too was shut down, and no electric replacement for it was ever set in its place. When the ban on natural gas for lighting purposes was lifted, the Playboy Club found itself surrounded by buildings that dwarfed it, and no kind of searchlight would have been effective.
The war on natural gas as a fuel has been long going on, and there seems to be a faction that believes too much access to energy sources is somehow “harmful” and is to be forbidden under any context.
All the restaurants the elites frequent use gas stoves that they leave on on a continuous basis. There is no way the government will force them to replace gas fueled stoves because that would take away their privileged gourmet meals.
