Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was finally elected Speaker of the House in the 15th round of voting, which began shortly before midnight EST Friday night.
And according to one report, McCarthy has Donald Trump to thank for it.
Sources told Breitbart News that McCarthy’s election as speaker was facilitated by a compromise reached with the help of former President Donald J. Trump. One source was Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), the incoming chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
“This doesn’t get done without the support and leadership of President Trump,” he told Breitbart.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) also said that Trump “has played a nice part” in the negotiations that finally saw McCarthy win the gavel.
“Another source familiar with the matter indicated that Trump had been engaged in the process since early December, making phone calls throughout the month to whip votes and consolidate support behind McCarthy. These calls were not mere one-offs but included ongoing correspondences with many different lawmakers,” Breitbart reports. “Trump’s involvement persisted throughout this week, including in talks last night and this morning ahead of the crucial breakthrough for McCarthy, according to the source.”
“His statements that he put out in support of Kevin McCarthy, it was like cement for our 201 that refused to move away from Kevin,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) told Breitbart. “It told many of them that, ‘Look, the support is there.’ Trump telling everyone in that statement that ‘I’m calling. I’m working the phones. I’m talking with everybody.’ That was support that was needed at a critical time when members could have fallen off.”
Trump also called Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) Friday evening and played a crucial role in getting them to vote “present” in the final round and lower the threshold of votes McCarthy needed

Congratulations to Trump and McCarthy for the huge win. Can’t stop winning!
There’s more to this than meets the eye. McCarthy won, but not before giving a number of significant concessions. Will he ultimately honor them? We’ll see. How might things have played out if Trump had backed another candidate like, say, a Jim Jordan? or simply stayed out of it? Hard to say, but you can make a reasonable argument that the outcome would not have been any better, and might have been worse.
Hosts gay parties, made a record number of bad picks and now pushes for a WEF member to be house speaker. I’m doneWhy did Ron DeSantis appoint a WEF person to his administration to counter climate change?
THIS.
I’ll wait for 2024 before commenting on THIS one.
That is not what the media says.
8D chess.
Yup.🙄
Please. As if that's a good thing, anyway. Based on what Boebert said on the floor, and from the pictures of Rosendale today, MTG was about the only one taking his calls.
To Songcraft and the others above and constantly on FR who keep picking on this “flaw”:
Trump had nothing political to trade with except the job. When they had the White House safely on their resume, and had traded White House favors with others, they returned to other pursuits. He had absolutely no way of sorting out the loyal from the disloyal.
The people who recommended them so highly were doing the same thing: trading DC favors like baseball cards.
He was out of his usual milieu. Could be different next time around when he has so many relationships to work with like all the others around him.
His deal skills are still as sharp as ever.
Trump is in the mix and he os feared by the old guard. So Trump is always working to mollify the RINOs and convert them to his way.He is a deal maker, and that’s just the way it has to work, unless we go to the revolutionary phase to take our nation back. The Art of the Deal was not invented by Trump, he is just masterful at it. The art of the deal was a political discovery of our founders a way to get along and pursue happiness.
Wrangling McCarthy is not yet over. He may insert all of his concessions in the upcoming House Order of Operations Bill which has to be the first piece of legislative work next week, but the RINOs have to vote Yes on it and some of them are not happy with the Freedom caucus or the work of Donald Trump in getting McCarthy elected.
The majority may amend and pass the House Operations Bill without the concessions made by McCarthy, they have the votes to do it.We will see if McCarthy will stay true t9o his position of concession and whether the whip can rally the votes to have the concessions passed into law
Its not over until the fat lady sings next week.
And as far as this particular election, we got popular and House recognition of what needs to be followed for the speaker to be fair.
Someone pointed out yesterday that the Dems could have fixed it so McCarthy won quickly, and thus avoided all the bargaining that made it turn out the way it did. So it was a huge pain in the neck but a good thing.
Was that partly intended by our side? We’ll probably have to wait till the memoirs are written to find out.

Now, all McCarthy and the Pubbies have to do is produce a VERY SOLID CONSERVATIVE effort for the next two years!
I am withholding $$$$$$$ to ALL Republican entities until they convince me that they REALLY SUPPORT AN AMERICA FIRST AGENDA!
GET WITH IT PUBBIES! YOU WORK FOR US! DELIVER!
Excellent summary. I agree.
Why doesn’t Trump focus more effort on saving America instead of him always wanting to be the center of attention? For starts, anyone can do the math. America now has an automatic omnibus-level burden on its shoulders for the rest of eternity :( And part of the blame goes to Trump for failing to use his Veto Pen effectively.

He made a handful of spectacular choices (Stephen Miller, for example) but the bulk of them were bad and I don't mean incompetent, I mean they worked against him. That list is long. Mattis, Kelly, Sessions, Barr, etc etc.
The fact is that the President sets the agenda and counts on his staff to execute it. Trump could not count on that. And if he doesn't fix it then it doesn't matter how many good ideas he has. And how can we know that he's smarter the second time around? I dunno. It gives me great concern.
