UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:
Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.
Original story below:
For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.
He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.
Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.
A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

The “present” votes changed the denominator.
“Who else had the votes to win it?”
Again, we are the stupid party. GOP conservatives had two months to organize and come up with a viable alternative to KM. But, nooo... Two months of navel gazing is not productive.
Clever Republicans pretend to fight about an issue already pre-ordained, in order to make sure they are in the spotlight on second anniversary of January 6th so no one pays attention to Biden’s speech on the subject. I’m impressed!
Funny how two of the three co-authors, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, and Kevin McCarthy, of GOP’s “ The Young Guns” published in 2010 have been the center of high drama regarding House Leadership.
Paul Ryan, the reluctant bride and now this.
Kabuki theater, nothing more.
The whole spectacle was cleverly designed to keep Biden’s January 6th speech off the front page ;)
Boebert = AOC wannabe
“Its funny how you Dem trolls here are suddenly pro conservative n The Speaker vote, when you have spent all your time here pushing left wing propaganda”
I am a Dem troll? LOL! I guess you’ve never read my posts.
OFten?
How 50% of the time!
The Left was thrilled with the GOP infighting but now they are in unhappy since it has apparently ended with gains by conservatives that will hopefully hold the wicked FBI and other agencies accountable and make it easier to control spending.
but they haven’t cosigned this loan.
No.
Yes.
How? Strongly worded criticisms?
Yup.
ain’t gonna work.
