UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:
Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.
Original story below:
For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.
He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.
Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.
A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

No. They worked hard for concessions. 15 votes isn’t folding like cheap suits.
So, who would you include in this “new” party?
Now that business is done, the GOP conference needs to hold McCarthy to the letter of every single agreement he made to the FC. Sounds like he’ll be on a short leash.
And in congress, on K street, FR, and country clubs everywhere this is our private club Republican Party worshipers went to bed happy and content knowing the rabble of their beloved and saintly party was not in control and they slept dreaming of never ending omnibus bills full of boondoggles for their districts, insider tax tips, and special favors and protections.
Kevin, Mitch, and Ronna were still in charge and all was right in their warped world.
“There are some people who would have you stand on principle that if you don’t get all that you’ve asked for from the legislature, you jump off the cliff with the flag flying. I have always figured that half a loaf is better than none and I know that in the democratic process, you’re not always going to get what you want.” - Ronaldo Maximus Reagan
It’s an aging republic.
You can’t fight age, I guess. With all of the millions of immigrants flowing into our beloved country (legal and illegal), this was bound to happen. Might have been saved if immigrants and their children were taught to love America but they have been taught to hate her for at least two decades. American children have also been taught this in school.
America as we knew it is forever gone. Hang on to those memories.
“Which proves they don’t have a shred of conservatism in them.”
Sure they do. It’s more of an integrity thing for me. I posted somewhere on this thread about Reagan’s “half loaf is better than no loaf at all” quote. Sometimes you just have to give a bit to get a bit. As long as the Caucus got what they wanted, with the exception of not having McCarthy as speaker, we will live with this, watch McCarthy very carefully and when he strays from the script, hold him accountable.
Wow, that sign went up fast. Sort of like it had already been made.
Don’t forget, this is what Donald Trump wanted.
Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy and Ronna Romney McDaniel.
Meet the new bosses. Same as the old bosses.
And 5-time loser Trump leading them all.....

YUP !
Laura Loomer is correct.
KM is a treasonous viper
CoV to repeal the 17th amendment. This is the way to go forward.
...so is his master, Ryan.
Amen...its gonna take a while for that truth to sink in.
“It’ll be like this never happened.”
Yep. He’ll do whatever he wants, no matter what he promised.
Every person who is complaining about McCarthy for Speaker I would assume does not support Trump. He was calling the 20 hold-out telling them to give it up.
I loved Trump but some of the things he’s done over the last 2 years has made me drop my support of him. (vaccine support and support of McCarthy & Romney-McDaniel being the most offensive).
Honestly, the 20 “hold-outs” knew from the start that McCarthy would win in the end but they got concessions. That’s something. The likelihood of McCarthy will honor them is not high but breaking them will make him look more like a snake.
“She voted ‘present’
Doesn’t make her a ‘phony’.”
Exactly. Many of those who voted present, or for another person, did it because their constituents were adamantly opposed to McCarthy. Representing constituents is why they’re there in the first place. Too bad most of them forget that the minute they step in to DC.
“We all knew McCarthy would be the inevitable winner,”
I must have been in a Fool’s Paradise, because I truly believed he was going to be defeated.
