The Illinois House passed a modified ban on high-powered weapons and large-capacity magazines early Friday.
The assault weapons legislation quickly advanced to the full House and after late-night debate passed on a 64-43 vote.
The bill would ban the manufacture, sale and possession of dozens of firearms defined by the state as assault weapons.
The Protect Illinois Communities Act was created in response to the Highland Park mass shooting.
The bill would immediately end the sale of assault weapons and would allow FOID card endorsement of legacy weapons with a 300-day grace period. Active-duty and qualifying retired law enforcement would be exempt

What exactly is a “high-powered weapon”?
Doesn’t matter. It will be overturned by SCOTUS. Who exactly gets to define what an assault weapon is? My dog is an assault weapon, as is my car.
Like a bazooka!?
So now only the bad guys will have them? Sounds like a great plan for a place where murder by illegal firearms reign supreme.
But it shouldn’t even get to that point. Only tyrants disarm citizens-—these people are tyrants, period! These laws are illegal and those pushing them should be held accountable for their decisions.
Could a politician’s mouth be considered an offensive assault weapon?
SUPER Majority: House, Senate, and Governor.
Plus, law enforcement was stripped of several protections in the last session.

“What exactly is a “high-powered weapon”?”
Anything that can legitimately be used for self defense or in the event of a tyrannical government, but I repeat myself.
Extremely likely, but in the long run it won't matter. Miller v. Bonta is pending in California, and once it is overturned, that will set the nationwide precedent that post Bruen all of these so-called "assault weapon" bans are unconstitutional.
Could a politician’s mouth be considered an offensive assault weapon?
= = =
Yes, and when combined with their other orifice, would be classified as fully automatic.
Notice “law enforcement” and retired “law enforcement” is exempt....
I’ve challenged a few people to tell me, exactly, what a ‘bazooka’ is. They all stammer and say, ‘It’s a big gun’. Nope.
And that will happen in about 5 years.
Deer hunting in Illinois:
Illinois Department of Natural Resources, ammunition is restricted to .30-caliber or larger centerfire cartridges that are less than 1 2/5 inches in length or straight-wall cartridges of at least .30 caliber. Acceptable cartridges “must be available as a factory load, with the published ballistic tables of the manufacturer showing a capability of at least 500 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle.”
The list of approved cartridges includes .45-70 Government and .450 Bushmaster. The .300 Blackout and .44 WCF are also on that list, along with a half-dozen other bottleneck rounds, but most of the approved rifle rounds are straight-wall cartridges.
As it’s been for many many years! This will increase the odds the bad guys will be more successful!
