California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy lost his bid for speaker on the chamber's third vote, losing one additional vote as Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds broke ranks to back Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan.
McCarthy claimed 202 votes, all from Republicans, while Jordan gained one additional vote for a total of 20. Donalds previously voted for McCarthy twice.
California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy failed to clinch the Speaker's gavel on the second chamber-wide vote, as a number of conservatives in the Republican caucus lined up behind Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan.
McCarthy became the first speaker candidate to lose on the first round in a century after ten Republicans voted for Republican Rep. Andy Biggs, Ariz., and a further nine opted for other candidates.
In the second vote, Republican detractors all cast their votes for Jordan, whom Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz nominated for the post.
McCarthy's vote total remained the same as on the first ballot, with 203 Republicans backing him.

Tomorrow a bunch will vote “Present”, lowering the number of votes needed, and McCarthy will be Speaker. Nonsense over.

Is there a “moderate” Republican that could get enough votes to hold onto McCarthy’s votes and get enough “moderate” Dems to sign on in the name of bipartisanship to make up for the anti-McCarthy votes?
Or will McCarthy or Jordan or Scalise be able to pull this out? Or is there a dark horse?

How many Republicans would need to cross the aisle to make that happen?

Or Hakeem will the Speaker.- Biden will be reelected (if he runs).
- Dems will retake the House.
- Dems will hold the Senate.
- It will be the fault of 20 Republicans and their supporters.
- Not another dollar.

Why, when Jordan has 20 and Donalds had 1?

You really want a RINO like McCarthy at any cost, he will not do one thing. It’s a lost cause at the Federal Level, it’s all way too corrupt.

‘moderate dems” is a category with nobody in it.

Hence the scare quotes.
The question stands.
To: E. Pluribus Unum
.... The GOP has become a dysfunctional party of Clowns. Currently we have no members of the House in the United States. There will be no members of the House in existence until there is a Speaker of the House to swear them in to be seated. The longer this takes the longer it will be before there will be any investigations into anything. The Democrats are sitting prety and laughing their arses off right now.

That only works if it is the Democrats who vote “present”, which is highly unlikely.

- Cheney is a RINO.
- Kinzinger is a RINO.
- McCarthy is a Republican.
- 5% of the country is not going to get its way with these tactics. They will cost us all three elections in 2024 if this continues. That is all those 20 Republicans represent.

Jeffries is a Democrat.
Cheney is a RINO.
Kinzinger is a RINO.
McCarthy is the lead RINO.
Kev, spit be upon him, is only a r until he can do us damage, then he pulls a Lucy and hands the ball to the dems.
OmniCoupUs bill being the most recent example.
Ho ho, kev that I needs to go.
