GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to secure victory in his long-running quest to become Speaker of the House in the first round Tuesday afternoon, a setback for both McCarthy and House Republicans who have an uphill battle to prove Republican leadership can govern with a narrow majority following last November's midterm elections.
The selection of House Speaker is generally a procedural step in a new majority's work to take control of the lower chamber, but Republicans in the House have had a rough go of it between the midterm elections and Tuesday's vote. GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to lock up enough votes to cruise to easy election as Speaker of the House, and the intervening period saw Republicans going after each other as much, if not more, than Democrats.

then it must be due to climate change....lol
¡Si, Sr!
McCarthy-Luntz has said if he doesn’t get his “earned” Speakership he will leave politics.
He’s also, supposedly, moved some of his items into the Speaker’s office, already.
Watch the stupid party snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.
A few democrats will eventually cross the aisle and vote for him, if only to get the gravy train going again.
I want Jordan doing those investigations. I want Jordan to preside over all three impeachment hearings. I think he’d be bored, stiff being speaker.
Good for you. That is a good start.
It will be a cold day in Hell before Gray Beaver votes in the direction of a single thing I believe in.
Who cares? This is none of his business, other than as an ordinary American citizen.
“Poor Paul Ryan” ...lol...Good one!!
Then again, IMO, the entire government is criminal, so, in the words of her Heinousness "At this point, what difference does it make?"
However, the objections to McCarthy are understandable.
I pray it will be resolved with the right person chosen. 🙏
(Is Devin Nunes a possibility? 🤔)
There is absolutely no difference between McCarthy and Jeffries. They will both promote and advance the very same Globalist agenda. So even if McCarthy wins, the Dems still control the narrative and agenda and the GOP controls nothing even though they are the majority. McCarthy will just hand the Dems what they want anyhow. Majority means absolutely nothing at this point without a more loyal house leader.
That's how people in D.C. view all of us.
You think electing McCarthy is "victory"? Honestly, I saw little chance for the GOP to come out victorious today. Go ten rounds of voting. Maybe it will make McCarthy a bit more humble. Probably not.
I think the best outcome is to not seat a speaker in this congress.
“You think electing McCarthy is “victory”? Honestly, I saw little chance for the GOP to come out victorious today.”
Absolutely, well said.
No ... nasty little b!tches like him don't get humble. They get vindictive.
Honestly this isn’t nearly the drama the media wants you to believe it is... no, its not even historic.. yes been a while since multiple votes are needed, but unless you get to taking more than 133 votes to get a speaker, you aren’t in history making territory.
If McCarthy is worthy of the position he seeks then he should be able to get 15 more votes... if he can’t that speaks, frankly, to the fact he probably shouldn’t have the position.
He already lost round 2 79 votes in.
McCarthy was caught on Camera laughing after 1st vote.
Sadly, old fossils are eventually replaced by new fossils.
Yep. 1923.
Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
