GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to secure victory in his long-running quest to become Speaker of the House in the first round Tuesday afternoon, a setback for both McCarthy and House Republicans who have an uphill battle to prove Republican leadership can govern with a narrow majority following last November's midterm elections.
The selection of House Speaker is generally a procedural step in a new majority's work to take control of the lower chamber, but Republicans in the House have had a rough go of it between the midterm elections and Tuesday's vote. GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to lock up enough votes to cruise to easy election as Speaker of the House, and the intervening period saw Republicans going after each other as much, if not more, than Democrats.

Paul Ryan loved every minute of screwing Trump’s Presidency.
What a mess. The Dems and liberal media are loving this. You would have thought the Republicans would have gotten together and ironed all of this out before today. Just a mess.
Where have these conservatives been for the past 40+ years?
We can’t reward Benedict Arnold’s of our party! I don’t care how many votes it takes. This guy does not deserve to be House Speaker! My choice would be Jim Jordan.
For the first time in my life, I’m represented by someone who believes as I do. Thanks to redistricting, Andy Harris is now my representative. As his first action, he voted against McCarthy.
G-d forbid they get Hakim Jeffries. That would throw away the precious but slim Republican lead in the House and Jeffries is a highly bigoted, race baiting, corrupt commie.
USA goes toe HELL right before your very eyes.....they like losing.
Trump is going to be pissed. This is a rebuke of him. This is a message from some Republicans to him.
Moses didn’t want to go back to Egypt either, but that’s what he was called to do. Not trying to compare Jordan to Moses, and would really like to see Jordan take over. However, is he a good cat-herder or is he better at being an attack dog not tied to what all a Speaker has to do?
Am praying, since God alone knows who all needs to be in the right places in this Congress.
Do you really think our base after six years of the BS the mediapukes have dished out on the Republicans we give an iota of what they think? Tell me when have they been favorable to the Republicans? This is the war. This is a fight and the Benedict Arnold’s of our party cannot be rewarded because they will turn around and stab us again in the back just to please, the mediavomits and the establishment! HECK NO TO LUNTZ LOVER!!!!
Andy Biggs has Zero chance of being elected Speaker and there is absolutely no way that a vast number of House Republicans will work with him if he were elected.
I totally get it that the House leadership has been piss poor and McCarthy was a player in the Republican betrayal of the American people.
The Republican hold outs have used their leverage and they really need to take yes for an answer and put together a coalition that can actually govern. I can't help but suspect that a lot of the animosity towards McCarthy is personal in nature.I am concerned because I don't see a method or an end game with positive outcome to the opposition.
Yep. First time in 100 years.
The Repubs were warned...To the dumb nine...you bear this vote...Nancy is loving it...
A few never Trumpers.
He’s not interested and supports McCarthy 110%.
Your meaning?
As much as I support DJT-
McCarthy sold him down the river, and us.
McCarthy needs to get yeeted. Show the establishment we’re sick of their BS and they either hold their noses for what we want, for a change, or this goes on forever.
DJT is just being a good Republican by endorsing that Turd. He is wrong on this one.
Anybody but McCarthy. Hold strong true Republicans.
Whoever it is, FBI played a major role in this no matter what. The question is if they were successful or not. Ghosts in the Machine is correct.
It’s as if people forgot all about Paul Ryan just a few years ago.
