What I find interesting is their ABJECT FEAR of a MAGA Speaker

Please explain how your "MAGA Speaker" gets 218 votes from McCarthy's 188 and Jeffries' 212.

They way I see it, MAGA only has 34 votes to work with.

The Republican holdouts are playing a dangerous game during the dangerous times we are living in.

Dangerous games have dangerous consequences.

If Republicans cannot get behind McCarthy then the second and subsequent votes for Speaker become the House equivalent of Ranked Choice Voting.

Ponder that one before you support the Anyone But McCarthy crowd.

Gingrich is right - McCarthy has given in to the Vacate the Chair motion so Republicans need to close ranks with McCarthy.

The reality is that American lost an opportunity to put an end to the insanity in the 2022 elections and they refused to so we are stuck with two more years of insanity.

Flawed as he is, McCarthy is the one person who is going to become Speaker - either as Republican Consensus choice or as a coalition choice and that coalition may not include all Republicans.

If we cross the coalition Rubicon, then all bets are off. Only thing for sure is that Conservative Republicans are going to face a long winter of being frozen out of having even a seat at the table for any serious political power.

The Conservative Republicans have used all the limited leverage that have to stack the deck in their favor to become power brokers in the House and they are peak influence going forward.

If they keep playing the game too hard, they (and we) may just end up with zero influence and Nancy Pelosi becomes de facto Speaker if we give her a chance.

I’m currently reading “Troublesome Young Men”. It’s about the Tories who opposed Neville Chamberlin’s appeasement of Hitler. They got the same treatment from the leadership.

Thank you.

The way to CHANGE how Congress does business is to actually CHANGE how it does business.

...that's no longer "a little chaos" - it's Republicans crapping the bed and throwing away the only national victory from the 2022 elections.

There's at least two FReepers that have posted they hope a Dem gets elected as Speaker. In years past that would have been enough to get a time-out on FR.

At this point it's just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Regrettably true, but there is more to consider.

Do we really want to make sure that Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden get to decide on who gets on the life boats?

That water looks real cold down there and dry land is a swim too far.

Churchill was the “Trump” of his day, the Tories tried to run him out of the party.

“Republican House members attempting to block Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) speaker bid have a “psychological problem.”

Yeah, it’s called patriotism.

Totally agree. They’re only fighting over who they think gets to fire the last shot that kills the GOP. Neither realize the party is already dead.

Can you imagine Newt saying “I’m not gonna sit down on a couch with Pelosi”? Crikey.

After the snub on Air Farce One.......yes.

I agree that they need to show an alternative to KM, but What has KM done to deserve it? He wanted Trump to resign, never criticizes Mitch, Kash Patel said he wouldn’t give them subpoenas to investigate Hillary with Spy Gate, did nothing about voter fraud including Kari Lake’s election. Has he criticized prior GOP Speakers?

Yes, yes I can.

Newt fled from Congress on January 3, 1999.   Nancy Pelosi didn't become Speaker until January 3, 2007.   Newt Gingrich had no business in Washington except to suck up to Nan.

Newt Gingrich was my Congressman.   Getting Biblical, he has feet of clay.
