It gets even better: Barr points out that the bill, which has been signed into law by President Biden, states that the kill switch, which is referred to as a safety device, must “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired.” In other words, Big Brother will constantly be monitoring how you drive. If you do something the system has been programmed to recognize as driver impairment, your car could just shut off, which could be incredibly dangerous.
There is the possibility the kill switch program might measure your driving as impaired, then when you try to start the car up again the engine won’t fire up. That would potentially leave you stranded.
But wait, there’s more. This kill switch “safety” system would be open, or in other words there would be a backdoor. That would allow police or other government authorities to access it whenever. Would they need a warrant to do that? Likely not. Even better, hackers could access the backdoor and shut down your vehicle.

Back in the 70s I made some good money disabling the seat belt “no start” interlocks, which was super easy, just disconnecting a two wire harness under the seat.
My wife had a 1986 Jaguar XJ that had this feature. I’m not sure it was the feds, but someone was throwing the switch, regularly.
But obviously, I do not support even the passive monitoring system.
I own a 2003 Toyota Avalon (low mileage, mint condition), 2009 Toyota Camry (high mileage, good condition) and a 2015 Town & Country Mini Van (low mileage, mint condition).....I’m 66, retired, run on site Airbnb’s. No new cars or kill switches for me.
Chinese company already probably lined up to make the ‘beat-the-kill-switch’ device....$100 for installation.
Remove travel and freeze bank accounts...

There should be a law against passing laws that endangers civilians

Kill switches are the main reason for the push to EVs. It’s not about the environment, it’s about control.

My daughter has one of those minivans. They have their issues, but parts are readily available and not bad to work on. The torque converter in the transmission is the most expensive failure point.
Instead, they’ll be dining with a couple containers of Beluga caviar while WE rot.
