My wife had a 1986 Jaguar XJ that had this feature. I’m not sure it was the feds, but someone was throwing the switch, regularly.

Do you really think someone was taking the time to monitor your car, and killing the engine just to mess with you or your wife?

I'll take the Occom's Razor approach: The 1986 switch was malfunctioning.

Also affectionately called "The Lucas Switch".

Every classic British vehicle I had would frequently cycle that switch.

When we're talking about Lucas Electric, I would say "Never attribute to malice what could be explained by incompetence."

Some new and used car lots have a starter shut off devise in them so it can’t be started to umm prevent theft from the lot.

I didn’t know it until I bought my 2011 pick up I was at a gas station went to start it nothing had it towed to a GM dealer and they removed it.

Have your car checked

That was Lucas. It was a feature, not a bug.

Jaguars are actually good cars once you've fixed and replaced all the problematic parts from the factory.
