Former congressman: Omnibus bill allows feds to require remote kill switches in new cars

[EXCERPT]

According to an article written by former U.S. Representative Bob Barr, hidden away in the recently passed infrastructure bill, the very one I warned before would negatively impact drivers across the country if it were to pass, is a measure to install vehicle kill switches into every new car, truck, and SUV sold in this country. The regulation likely won’t be enforced for five years, so maybe there’s time to do something about this. …

It gets even better: Barr points out that the bill, which has been signed into law by President Biden, states that the kill switch, which is referred to as a safety device, must “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired.” In other words, Big Brother will constantly be monitoring how you drive. If you do something the system has been programmed to recognize as driver impairment, your car could just shut off, which could be incredibly dangerous.

There is the possibility the kill switch program might measure your driving as impaired, then when you try to start the car up again the engine won’t fire up. That would potentially leave you stranded.

But wait, there’s more. This kill switch “safety” system would be open, or in other words there would be a backdoor. That would allow police or other government authorities to access it whenever. Would they need a warrant to do that? Likely not. Even better, hackers could access the backdoor and shut down your vehicle.

If you took a random sample of 10 hipsters, in their early 20s, they wouldn’t know how to use one of those gauges any more than they would know how to use a rotary phone.

The omnibus is just the latest example of the ingrown fecklessness and innate cowardice of the gang of fellow travelers known as the GOP...

The only positive to this is if a mad man has a kidnapped child in the car. Government shuts down the car and the child is saved.

Blah Blah Blah

Zelensky and Ukraine have nothing to do with anything here.

America’s problem is it is infested with Liberalism and highly ignorant, lazy voters.

Tens of millions of “vote blue no matter who” retards are our problem.

It was an attempt at humor. 1986 was probably the nadir of Jaguar reliability, and that is saying something. They slid into the end of the 1980’s as a failing venture and were bought by Ford for a song. Ford lost $billions over the next two decades before unloading them to Tata - which seems to have turned it around as a brand. But in the 1980’s they were terribly unreliable.

Oh, so $100,000,000,000 in US taxpayer money and US taxpayer purchased military arms & equipment.

McConnell saying that giving Ukraine what it needs to defeat Russia is the #1 priority for the USA.

As for “vote blue no matter who”, the flip side is “vote for the incumbent Republican that has been stabbing us all in the back for years otherwise the Democrat will win. They promise to do the right thing this time”.

I heard that Ford required them to use their wiring harnesses rather than Lucas . . . our TR-6 only caught on fire TWICE . . . til we discovered the dead short that was IN THE SCHEMATIC. You couldn’t invent this stuff!

Can we, instead, install remote kill switches on our representatives?

How long before car jackers hack these things and use them to take your car?

The replacement was never as good as the OEM, though....doesn’t smell the same either. Besides, it doesn’t come in Whitworth!

If I knew it had one I would have done the same I never knew they had them.
The newer cars and trucks have record what the auto was doing before a wreck speed brakes ..........
Insurance companies pushed that idea I will never buy a new car again it better and cheaper to buy a restored car lower maintenance and it hold it’s value and more fun to drive and better made than a factory built one.

No CPU no metric no problem

I predict they will soon be using aggressive inspection programs to get anything older than 10 yrs off the roads.

Similar to what England and Japan do.

After I bought it used, spotted a mystery button attached to the lower dash. Lots of searching revealed it to be a “FARR” alarm - disabler the dealer had installed.

Had not seen the little switch, would not have known it was there.
