Police said they began tracking and surveilling Kohberger around Christmas and stayed on him for four days when they spotted the white Hyundai Elantra they believed was connected to the murders.
Investigators said Kohberger drove cross-country in the car to his parents home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania.
His car was confirmed to be at the Pennsylvania home, and officials worked quickly to obtain a warrant for his arrest, law enforcement sources told CNN.
Along with the surprised bar owner, students who attended Washington State University with Kohberger said they were shocked to learn that the quiet man in their classroom was the prime suspect in the brutal slaying.
Friday's arrest is the first major break in the case - with Kohberger asking if 'anyone else was arrested' when he was taken into custody. An extradition hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
Kohberger is a registered Libertarian, although does not appear to have had any active social media profiles at the time of his arrest.
During a press conference on Friday authorities confirmed that a white Hyundai Elantra was discovered in the search – with sources saying it was towed from outside Kohberger's home.
Law enforcement sources told CNN that his DNA was discovered at the scene of the crime – with officers managing to track down who owned the car seen in the area of the slayings.
However, Kohberger has no prior arrests, according to public records, so it is unclear how officials got hold of his DNA.

Well said.
His GF crossed her legs one time too many?

A fourth kingdom on earth,
Which shall be different from all other kingdoms,
And shall devour the whole earth,

“No papers?”
“No papers”
And a University criminology student too! A pre-cop committing pre-crime.
Back at you, FRiend. The government is trying like hell to kill my optimism, but they can’t quite eradicate it completely.
So I always hope for better times...:)
Thank you-and a Happy New Year to you, Lizavetta...:)
Remember, your DNA (and paper) connections go back before there were countries in their present form.
I have ten generations of data from the part of Germany my mother’s family is from. Depending on when a given ancestor was born (and the are all from a roughly circular area with a diameter of twenty miles), they could be from Hannover, from Denmark, from Sweden, from a Free City, from Austria, even from France.
So, when you show this to children and they say, “So are we Swedish, are we German, etc” the best you can say is, “It’s complicated”.
Just a little info on dna. After having a stem cell transplant with my sister as my doner - I now have my sisters dna.
Geez - the site has already tagged him a serial killer.
They better hope they are right.
That certainly isn't how they identified and caught Joseph DeAngelo the ex-cop in California who and raped or killed over two dozen women.
Check back with your LEO buddies and ask them specifically about the DeAngelo case where DNA evidence from a cold case was used to produce a close DNA match with one of Joe DeAngelo's relatives before they even knew who the suspect was.
Off topic:
Onstar is a scam. I was rear ended. Onstar did not work. Certain conditions need to happen for it to work. Cars don't have sensors in the rear, only front or side.
Next Onstar no longer works on cars older than 2015 or on 2G. The alternative is to use their app on the cell phone. The cell phone would detect the crash. If it's safely tucked in a bag, it won't detect. If you take the phone with you instead of leaving it in the car, Onstar will track where you walk.
“Have DemoMarxists released any photoshopped pics of him yet wearing a MAGA hat?”
wait for it
He’ll be shown in the background by viking horn guy on Jan. 6.
My understanding is that if someone in your extended family has ever used a commercial genetic testing service, that’s enough of a DNA trail for authorities to zero in on a suspect.
**********
Yep.
And that’s what happened here.
Still, glad they caught the guy but it seems that DNA archives are here to stay and only growing. I’m not convinced this is a good trend.

I enjoy seeing justice in this world, no matter how rare it happens.
I have watched true crime programs where this practice of locating relatives of the suspect’s DNA from a crime 30 or more years ago...
It extremely satisfying to see several old geezers in an interrogation room dumbfounded saying it could not be them.
To all those persons who think they will never be caught, WATCH OUT!! LOL.
Not only that, but it only takes one member of a family to give a sample.

Many rape-murder crimes from 30 or more years ago are now being solved through practice.
Thank goodness we are now catching all those old geezers!!

Libertarian is close to republican.............he’s a republican
Ever had Bloodwork via your Doc or a Hospital ?
Then you’re in the Database.
The stazi would have drowned themselves in drool to have had the technology in their days.
The argument "A is B and A is C, therefore B is C" is a fallacy.
Man is a killer. Man is a Libertarian. Therefor, killers are Libertarian.
You should not vote for killers. Libertarians are killers. I will not vote for Libertarians.
Liberatians are killers. Libertarians are very close to Republicans. I will not vote for Republicans either.
...and it works on the amebic brains that walk among us with blue tooth headsets and smart phones.
More formally:
It is invalid to cross predicates in this way. A is B is to predicate B of the subject A. A is C is to predicate C of the subject A. B and C are predicates of the subject A. Until you convert either B or C into a subject, and predicate something of that subject, you have nothing to allow us to draw any conclusions about either B or C, because B and C have not been presented as subjects.
