The new adult-oriented HBO show will reimagine several characters from the Mystery Inc. gang, including Velma, who will be of South Asian descent....Scooby-Doo himself will not make an appearance in the series.

New "improved" cast of Scooby-doo - without Scooby, of course:
Well they could just have person who identifies as a dog and calls him/herself "Scooby". It could be a recurring theme that the rest of the world doesn't recognize this person as a dog, and "Scooby" repeatedly gets called by his/her "dead name" causing severe emotional distress.

Velma has already come out as a lesbian: "Yes, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated's Velma Is a Lesbian, Producer Confirms"
Fred and Daphne were always the hot item. Velma just couldn't compete with Daphne and now has given up on men completely. Sad.
