Yes, the XBB.1.5 variant is HUGELY outcompeting (in infectiousness) the other variants that are still extant in the US. Looking at the charts at the below link shows how rapidly it is expanding (as a percent of total cases).

It is not particularly “deadly”. “It’s just the flu, Bro” also applies to XBB as it did to other emerging variants. Any FReepers who are proficient could post images of the data here for ease of reference.
