Zelensky signs a controversial law to regulate the news media.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has signed off on legislation that would significantly expand the government’s regulatory power over the news media, a measure that journalists have warned will erode press freedom.

Mr. Zelensky, whose administration has been criticized for undermining press freedoms, ordered the drafting of a law increasing media regulation in 2019.

The measure was passed by Ukraine’s Parliament earlier this month along with a spate of other bills that lawmakers say were intended to help the country meet the European Union’s legislative conditions for membership. The bills included measures to protect the rights of national minorities. Mr. Zelensky signed the media regulation bill into law on Thursday, the Ukrainian media reported.

The media regulation bill expands the authority of Ukraine’s state broadcasting regulator, the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting, to cover the online and print news media. It gives the regulator the power to fine media outlets, revoke their licenses, temporarily block certain online media outlets without a court order, and request that social media platforms and search giants like Google remove content that violates the law, the Ukrainian news media has reported.

And our dear old uncle joe is helping with that, by giving him billions of our money.

No one is event trying to hide the grift at this point.

Any bets on the new congress voicing even token opposition next year?

“Why would he mess with the media? They’re kissing his ass daily.”

Because the war will eventually end and there will be hell to pay if the world discovers just how unbelievably corrupt Zelensky and his supporters (at home and abroad) truly are. He needs to get out in front of this before it blows up in his face.

A man backed by the United States and practically all of Europe up to this point.

Pretending it’s been a solo affair by either Ukraine or Russia up to this point is just ignorant.

A pox on both their houses. Not one more American dime for either.

Can you give a quick comment on what the Russians did as compared to what Zelensky did?

I’m very curious.

Because the US hasn’t given 10s of billions of unaccounted for dollars or billions of dollars worth of military equipment, to our own detriment, to Russia. All of that went to the “democratically elected” leader of Ukraine who wants nothing but freedom and prosperity for his country and people. Right?

I wish both sides of the Ukrainian conflict here on FR (those who support our involvement and those who think we should stay out of it) would simply state their argument without the personal attacks and ugly name calling. I somewhat wonder if both Zelensky and Putin are tools of the New World Oder; a depopulated world, subsistence living for the masses, and global dictatorship run by and for an elite.

“The intent of the posted “imagery” is quite obviously facetious and mocking in nature.”

When it gets posted every day and by the same people it’s hard not to notice the trend.

“Can you give a quick comment on what the Russians did as compared to what Zelensky did? I’m very curious.”

Sure. Russia banned free speech and they banned the foreign press BEFORE this war started.

Ukraine is restricting Russian news agencies and agencies that are friendly to Russia and that makes sense when there’s a war on.

The USA did the same thing in WW2 and IMHO the USA should have done the same thing during the Vietnam War when the US media became a tool of the international communists.

Jon, you have never wanted peace. You have wanted a Russian victory.

Please be honest at least with yourself. The rest of us are not fooled.

“now go make dinner.”

You need a nice girl to make you a cup of tea and treat you to some almond cookies.

American Alpha males like me don’t drink tea or eat almond cookies. That sounds like a foreign thing the Euros on these threads might like.

So along with censoring the media, this next Churchill/Reagan has banned Christianity and opposition political parties. Dictatorship: Zelenskyy Bans Political Opposition, Seizes Media Control

So Putin is essentially winning - Zelenkskyy is becoming more like Putin by the day and making Ukraine more like Russia by the day. All he needs to do now is start erecting statues to past murderous, communist dictators like Putin has been doing and he'll complete his transition.

That should please you based on your other posts where you have been giddy with excitement over Putin invading Ukraine, the advancements of the CCP, and North Korea's potential entry into the conflict on past threads. Comrade Jon rides again!
