Following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's historic visit to the US last week, Congress passed a provision to give Ukraine the assets that were seized from sanctioned Russian oligarchs.
The approval of the measure may have had something to do with a secret phone call between Zelenskyy and Sen. Mitch McConnell, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The outlet reported Thursday that the Ukrainian president called the Senate minority leader one day before his White House visit and address to Congress.
Three unnamed sources told the Post-Gazette about the call, in which Zelenskyy attempted to persuade McConnell that proceeds from the oligarchs' seized assets, including superyachts and mansions....

The ultimate goal is that we want to get the Oligarchs to turn on Putin, not to rally around him.

You do realize that there are two groups of Oligarch folks made up now....the original crew (from the 1990s), and the crew created out of thin air by Putin in the past two decades....mostly all KGB/FSB folks?
The original crew have little to no sway over Putin. The second crew owes their entire existence upon Putin moving them up.

It seems like piracy to just take possession of property because they are Russian citizens if they aren’t being charged with some sort of crime.
This is very likely how the reparations thing is going to go down.
The US and Britain did just that in WWI and WWII.
It goes back a very long way, and showed up in a lot of permutations. Recall the “letters of marque and reprisal” whereby private citizens were authorized to take enemy citizens ships, cargo and valuables as prizes.
Strange article. It was one of the least controversial bills ever. No nay votes in the Senate and only 8 in the House (the Squad + 4 Republicans).

Tell you what, Zelensky, if this war ends and Ukraine is still an independent country, then Europe will develop your gas fields and pipe that gas to Europe FOR FREE as payback for all of the military assistance they’ve given your country.

Next month they’ll pass a provision to arrest the oligarchs and place them in some delapidated camp in Utah just like the Japanese-Americans.
So now we’re letting that little weasel - who is the political equivalent of Fauci, nothing but an ignorant, corrupt, leftist publicity hound - use secret back-channel phone calls to run our country and empty our pockets? And FReepers are cheering?
