Steve Bannon Rips 'Gutless' Greg Abbott for Migrant Buses to Liberal Cities
Newsweek ^ | December 29, 2022

Posted on 12/29/2022 9:14:45 PM PST by Fiji Hill

Former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon railed against Governor Greg Abbott on Thursday, calling the Texas Republican "gutless" for busing migrants to Washington, D.C., in below-freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve.

Abbott has come under fire in recent months over the Lone Star State's practice of redirecting asylum-seekers and undocumented immigrants to cities run by Democrats. Liberals have long blasted the move as a "cruel" act of political theater, but the governor is now receiving criticism from some within his own party.

Bannon, a longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, slammed Abbott on Thursday in a post on the right-wing social media site Gettr.

"Abbott needs to stop busing illegal aliens into the interior of America and start shipping them BACK to the interior of Mexico... simple .. more gutless Republican Establishment shuffle..." Bannon wrote.

Over the weekend, critics sharply condemned Abbott after migrants were dropped off outside Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' home on Christmas Eve. The White House issued a scathing statement about the busing, saying that Abbott had "abandoned children on the side of the road in below freezing temperatures." Mp> "As we have repeatedly said, we are willing to work with anyone—Republican or Democrat alike—on real solutions, like the comprehensive immigration reform and border security measures President Biden sent to Congress on his first day in office, but these political games accomplish nothing and only put lives in danger," a White House spokesperson said in the statement.

Abbott wished his social media followers a merry Christmas via tweet on December 25. However, the post attracted blowback as detractors blamed him for the previous day's bus stunt. ,p> For his part, Abbott's office has gone on the defensive and accused the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden of hypocrisy. Renae Eze, a spokesperson for the Texas governor, claimed that the passengers had signed waivers "available in multiple languages upon boarding that they agreed on the destination."

"Instead of their hypocritical complaints about Texas providing much-needed relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities, President Biden and Border Czar Harris need to step up and do their jobs to secure the border—something they continue failing to do," Eze reportedly said.

Bannon may not be a fan of Abbott, but he's previously praised other GOP efforts to ship migrants to Democratic-led areas.

In September, the conservative firebrand heralded Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a "national leader" after the latter directed planes of migrants to Martha's Vineyard.

You can’t request asylum in the US if you’re from Guatemala, or Honduras, or China etc etc

Sure you can. It's happening every day.

Why would you think you can't?

These people were criminals the day they took that step across our border.

Not so.

Like it or not, under our asylum laws if they present themselves at the border and request asylum they may, in many cases, be processed and allowed to legally enter the country until their cases are adjudicated.

It's clear in US law.

Texas is big enough to solve its own problems all it needs is a real leadership its clear you have no idea what that means.

Abbott is owned by the cartel. He's not sending anyone back south.

I would agree,he has the Texas Rangers, local sheriffs, reserves, and many other agencies who are probably ready willing and able to stop the illegal migration with just a little bit of leadership but where is the leader?

If Bannon is guilty of fraud he needs to be punished. Politics sometimes brings out the best and the worst in people, its nothing new.

Sometimes its so bad trying to figure out who is straight and who is not all you can do is try and judge people by their actions.

I watch/listen to the war-room daily. Never miss an episode. If Bannon is dirty and guilty as you say he sure hides it well since he is little more than as patriotic as you can get week after week on the warroom.

Once again if he is guilty of fraud stealing money from those who wanted to fund the border wall he needs to be punished.

I don't know either way. This is the first I have heard about it.

That's exactly how it works.

What happens in Switzerland depends upon their laws. In the US you're allowed to apply for asylum if you're from those countries.

Unless you're trying to enter from Canada.

Bannon just announced on his show that Abbott is sending 2,000 illegals per night on busses to red states.

I thought sanctuary cities welcome illegals.

They do, until they start getting more than just 10 or 20 of them. Then they start realizing how big of a problem it is (for them with 50 or 100), but they still have no idea of what anything near the border is like.

Another misleading headline. Here is the important inside:

"Abbott needs to stop busing illegal aliens into the interior of America and start shipping them BACK to the interior of Mexico... simple .. more gutless Republican Establishment shuffle..." Bannon wrote.
