In 2024, California voters will have a chance to make quality education a civil right
Cal Matters ^ | December 19, 2022 | Antonio Villaraigosa

Over the course of the pandemic and two years of prolonged school closures, public school students experienced historic setbacks in math and reading progress.

California’s Smarter Balanced test showed that less than half of California students met the standard for English language arts, and fourth- and eighth-graders suffered the sharpest decline in math scores since 1990. The losses were most dire among Black and Latino students.

It is abundantly clear that prolonged school closures were catastrophic to the academic progress and wellbeing of K-12 students. We now have the test scores to prove it.

When concerned parents in Los Angeles sued their district to reopen schools last year, LAUSD argued that because students don’t have a constitutional right to a quality public education, it had no legal obligation to provide one.

Article from a lefty web site but very open about the failure of the California public school system.

If the country is flooded with kids from Non-English speaking countries and the state is forced to educated them of course the state is going to score low on standard tests.

I’m sure a ballot initiative declaring that there is a right to a public education will pass overwhelmingly.

Whether the schools actually provide that education as a different story altogether. Whether anything changes in schools the day after the overwhelming election victory for such an initiative, is questionable. But some people will consider it to be a major historic symbolic measure.

Quality education in a one party state controlled by the Marxist Socialist cabal is an oxymoron.

It’s interesting that a lefty like Villaraigosa admitting that the California schools had no legal obligation to provide a quality education. Hope these educators go to a doctor or hospital and they tell them that they have no legal obligation to provide quality medical care.

No doubt. Funny thing is that public education in California used to be excellent. Perhaps, before the vote, someone might do a study detailing exactly what went wrong to get to where things are now.

(Just kidding, any study that revealed the truth would be instantly condemned for wrongthink).

New laws will state all persons of color shall be awarded an “A” or “Outstanding” for all educational work in all schools.

The testing will be dumbed down to the point where all students have received a quality education.

Unreal. So you have state and federal mandates to provide public education to children, but it doesn't have to be a quality education. This is what has happened to the Progressive movement in America in the last 75 years. It has become just another form of graft.

Perhaps cops didn’t bust enough skulls in the ‘60s and the dopers grew up and got degrees... but they’re still dopes.
