An American weapon first dropped by stealth bombers over Kosovo in 1999 and then during combat in the post-9/11 wars will soon be used by Ukrainian pilots flying Russian-made jets to kill Russian soldiers.
The weapon, called the Joint Direct Attack Munition, consists of a kit that turns a cheap unguided bomb into a highly accurate, GPS-guided weapon. It is usually referred to as JDAM (pronounced JAY-dam).
The Biden administration announced this week that the weapons would be part of a new $1.85 billion military aid package, giving Kyiv a precision-guided bombing capability it has never had.
When dropped from higher altitudes, the bomb can travel about 15 miles to its target before exploding.
With the right kind of equipment, Ukrainian jets could potentially carry multiple JDAMs on a single mission, just like U.S. and NATO warplanes do.

I think they’re just jealous, Comrade Travis.
Western innovation is incredible. Boeing's proposed system, dubbed Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), fuses the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) with the M26 rocket motor, both of which are common in U.S. inventories and would give Ukraine a cheaper replacement for HIMARS with a longer 100 mile range.

Does Ukrain have any jets left?
Remind me why Maverick couldn’t use JDAMs in the movie? /s
Interesting tweet from Sargon.
Apparently so with more being sent. Slovakia's Foreign and European Affairs Minister Ratislav Káčer has announced his country is preparing to transfer Soviet-made Mikoyan MiG-29 fighter jets to the Ukrainian Air Force in coordination with the United States.Dec 13, 2022
Ukrainian pilots are preparing New Year's gifts for the Russian occupiers WAR
So let me get this right, you can simply take a stupid iron bomb, slap on a Boeing nose & tail kit, load it onto a stupid Ukrainian airplane that doesn’t have the software to program/guide the bomb and whamo you have a precision guided bomb with which to hit precise targets from 15-20 miles away while at 30000 feet.
Does this JDAM package come with necessary NATO aircraft integrated to actually employ them? However, rocket launched SDB is a cool idea, but unless targeting can be redesignated in flight, Artillery is as accurate and way cheaper. Ukraine is becoming the Live Fire test range for US Military Industrial Complex.
Just to add here - the Russian failed to destroy the Ukraine Air Force during the opening assault. The UA Air Force remained largely intact. The only losses have occurred since then are few and far between.
Wars always are. As they have to be.
Not to mention, the Military industrial Complex gets to replace all of the munitions at a much higher cost than the first time.
At the other end of the spectrum from JDAMs....
Pretty incredible video compilation of grenades being dropped from low altitude hovering quad rotor drones straight into fighting holes.
Imagine CW2 in America, with this going on between neighborhoods.
Do not miss this short video. Ignore the cheesy music.

War is not the answer unless a democrat is President, then it’s “Bombs away!”
war is business?
and who *started* this unnecessary war 10 months ago, Matty?
oh right, that would be Tsar Vladimir Mussolini, the one guy you NEVER criticize

And, uh…where are these bunkers the Ukes are gonna bust?
With aircraft that are notably sitting ducks for the Russians ( at least 3-4 more MiGs downed last week along with other aircraft)
This is missile, drone, artillery and tank warfare along a 700 mile front …not an insurgent leadership operating from a cave complex in Tora Bora.
