Stephan Bonnar, the UFC light heavyweight whose memorable battle with Forrest Griffin not only landed him in the Hall of Fame but may have also saved the UFC from bankruptcy, died Thursday at 45, the UFC announced.
Bonnar and Griffin engaged in one of the great fights in the promotion's history on April 9, 2005, in the light heavyweight finale of Season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter at the Cox Pavilion on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas. The UFC was tens of millions on dollars in debt at the time and then-owner Lorenzo Fertitta had instructed president Dana White to seek a buyer.
But after the epic Griffin-Bonnar battle on Spike TV, White, Fertitta and Spike executives worked out a new television deal in the arena's parking lot and the company's trajectory immediately went upward.
According to UFC.com, Bonnar died of complications from a presumed heart issue while at work. White told UFC.com that Bonnar is among the most significant fighters in UFC history
Stephan Bonnar was one of the most important fighters to ever compete in the Octagon. His fight with Forrest Griffin changed the sport forever, and he will never be forgotten. The fans loved him, related to him and he always gave them his best. He will be missed.
Bonnar was not only an aggressive striker who held a black belt in jiu-jitsu, but he was a witty public speaker who was gold with a microphone in his face.
Bonnar only lost once in his pre-UFC days, dropping a bout at Jungle Fight 1 to Lyoto Machida. Soszynski is the only non-UFC champion who ever defeated Bonnar.

Cause of death unknown
I would really like to know what is the correlation between covid vaccines and death by heart disease. Are the people who are dying actually vaccinated? Is there a temporal relationship, like how soon after vaccination are people dying? It isn’t documented either way so we are making assumptions as to whether heart attack victims are vaccinated or not. It isn’t scientific to assume things based on speculation.

COVID did a number on my lungs in early 2020. This was confirmed by the chest xrays and MRIs. I am now Stage 2 COPD.
I was never vaxxed.
Just this month, I began experiencing heart issues. Going for an angioplasty after New Years. COVID may have also damaged my heart.
From trekking across Europe pre-COVID to unable to drive in just 3 years.
I got criticized here earlier for questioning the same thing.

When the heart’s pumping chamber, the left ventricle, gets too big and its walls grow too thick, it can’t pump as well, said Onyedika Ilonze, an Indiana University cardiologist who specializes in heart failure and has treated steroid abusers with the condition.
The heart gets weaker, which can lead to congestive heart failure. High doses of steroids also raise blood pressure, increase cholesterol and seem to increase the risk of an irregular heartbeat, blood clots, heart attacks and strokes.
Bodybuilders might try to mitigate heart problems, taking hypertension medications when blood pressure gets too high, for example, or by donating blood when steroids cause the overproduction of red blood cells.
While heart damage from steroids usually builds over years, diuretics can stop the heart very quickly.
Diuretics, or “water pills,” are among the most common and most dangerous drugs used by bodybuilders. Competitors might use them to shed water shortly before a show, mostly because they don’t want excess fluid under the skin to obscure their muscle definition. But “drying out” the wrong way can have consequences that range from uncomfortable to deadly.
Diuretics prompt the kidneys to release sodium and potassium along with water. A balance between those key electrolytes is needed to regulate the heart’s electrical function.
Competitors who upset that balance have “locked up” with full-body cramps and passed out, sometimes onstage. Some have died after using diuretics, including Czech bodybuilder Alena Kosinova, who locked up backstage before a contest in Spain last year. She was able to answer questions about the diuretics she had taken before convulsing and losing consciousness.]
