Brutal Christmas storm: Is it climate change — or just weather?
HILL ^ | 12/24/2022 | ANDREW PERSHING, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Posted on 12/24/2022 10:15:41 AM PST by ChicagoConservative27

Many Americans are facing brutal cold this Christmas Eve. Freezing temperatures are plunging into Florida and Texas. Single-digit lows in the Plains and Great Lakes, and blizzard conditions are wrecking travel plans, while the same “bomb cyclone” is driving coastal flooding in the Northeast. Is climate change playing a role here?

Weird weather and wild extremes have been the calling cards of a changing climate, and it’s almost reflexive to question how much influence the warming world has in this last angry burst of 2022. Recent advances in the science of weather attribution can offer quick insight — and believe it or not, what feels today like extraordinary conditions might turn out to be surprisingly ordinary.

It seems scientifically impossible to have record colds during a Global WArming? Course, you cannot question science.

Joe Bastardi
@BigJoeBastardi
Climate change could be driving bomb cyclones and unstable polar vortex https://newsweek.com/newsweek-com-climate-change-driving-bomb-cyclone-unstable-polar-vortex-1768855 total crap. For those of you watching on Twitter or weather you saw me set this up using old school Penn State methods from late November. And that was based on outbreaks in the 70s.

Too hot? The solution is use less oil.
Too cold? The solution is use less oil.
Too volatile? The solution is use less oil.

They are transparent.

Bastardi never draws any debate challenges from the Climate Change “scientists” despite being a very outspoken public figure.

Odd.

Weird weather and wild extremes have been the calling cards of a changing climate

Such BS. I've lived 71 years. Every single one of those 71 years has had weird weather and wild extremes. I remember walking to class in Columbia, Missouri in 1969-1973 in 15 below temps. That hardly ever happens in Missouri, but it did 50 years ago.

We were fortunate to have lived in Syracuse, NY in 1966 when the "Blizzard of '66" hit.

"On January 26, Syracuse’s temperature dropped to -26° F, still tied for the record lowest temperature in Syracuse history. That arctic air set the foundation for the blockbuster storm. The storm tracked along the East Coast several days later, moving right up the Hudson Valley on January 30 then it stalled near Montreal on January 31.

Syracuse’s snow total over two and a half days was 42.3”. It was the greatest storm snowfall in Syracuse until the Blizzard of 1993 eclipsed it 27 years later."

Then, in 1977, I lived in Massillon, Ohio and another HUGE blizzard roared through northern Ohio.
"National Weather Service forecasters called for a blizzard warning across Ohio early on Friday, January 28, 1977. The cold wave and high winds swept across the state at dawn. Temperatures fell from 20 degrees to 5 to 10 degrees below zero during the day. High winds and blowing snow accompanied the cold wave. Winds of 35 to 45 mph, gusting to 60, blew new snow and snow already on the ground into huge drifts and obscured visibility."
The winds and snow completely filled road cuts through hills.

Read the "Little House on the Prairie" books for first-hand accounts of plains blizzards in the late 1800s.

People who think extremes are rare and unusual are ignorant simpletons who think history started when they had breakfast today.

Oh, come on.

A local meteorologist - well known - was on the radio the other day speaking of this ‘polar vortex’ and the effects upon most of the country.

He used the words ‘pretty rare event’ in conjunction with ‘unprecedented’ in his description.

Yeah. /s

And merely ‘unprecedented’ in his short adulthood (millennial).

These generations (>millennial) will be the death of this country, and we all know that this gaslighting operation now originates at the highest levels of government.

Canada’s fault.

Also Mother Nature’s way of punishing those who want to end the use of all petroleum hydrocarbons[and the rest of us].

Bad winters I remember...

Jan 1962. Brutal cold from Carlsbad NM clear to the Ozarks. Broke up lots of roads still record low temps.

March 14, 1968. Supposed to be a dry front. Dropped 14 inches of blowing snow. Drifts had the OK, ARK, MO, Kansas areas shut down for a long time.

Fall and Winter of 1976-1977. Brutal cold blowing snow, the entire continental US had cloud cover the entire month of January!

1978. 30 below “0” froze water in the bath tub AND washing machine inside the house.
1979 same as 1978.
1981.Same. Brutal cold.
All these were used as “proof” we were entering a “NEW ICE AGE!”

Then began the Glo-Bull Warming alarms/
January 28, 2009 4 inches of ICE shut down the area.

2011. Two feet of snow fell.

The Prudent Mariner keeps appraised of the weather, and let me tell you I’ve been through some weird weather, rogue waves, biting cold fronts..m I think the last cold that we had in the Tidewater Virginia area that was notable for me was probably around 2007 when we had two weeks in January that was below 15 during the day and it dropped to zero or so at night and my pump switch froze so I started putting a light on it at that point every winter.

And just last year the first two weeks of December were pretty cold and then we had a general warming up and the mild winter overall.

It’s just weather.

Never ever had sub zero temperatures or large snowfall in December.

Hint - my city did NOT break record low temps…
