Nearly every adult ICU bed in Oregon is occupied, driven by an uptick in respiratory viruses. Portland-area hospitals are operating at a “crisis” level for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began. The dire picture has prompted state health officials to implore people to slap their masks on, once again, to protect against a triple threat of covid, flu and RSV as people travel and gather indoors this holiday season.
But like nearly every community confronting a third pandemic winter, the entreaty is just that — a plea. Not a mandate. Health officials in a state that was among the last to end an indoor mask requirement in March now characterize mandates as a distraction. Instead, they are counting on Americans to voluntarily don one of the most effective tools for avoiding sickness.....
Only 3 in 10 Americans say they consistently wear masks when leaving the house, according to an Axios-Ipsos poll published in early December, the lowest rate since spring 2020. But 65 percent also said they would probably wear masks again if coronavirus cases rise in their communities.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has touted masks as one of the best ways to avoid respiratory illness but stopped short of advocating for mandates.....
Mandates should be tied to coronavirus hospitalizations rather than influenza and RSV because covid has a higher mortality rate, she said, noting that masking remains a prudent way to avoid respiratory infections.

When did I read this bull crap before? Sorry, the Bezos Compost has ZERO credibility. Go about living your life and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior with family and friends, unafraid.
Because masks don’t work and too many people know this.
Commie WP has a sad.
It’s not coming back near me. The numbers are dead flat.
CC
I know, it is likely a tricky balancing act-you don’t want to be completely full, but you don’t want to have people sitting on their hands, either.
2. The Washington Post propaganda outlet, which is owned by Jeff Bezos of Amaaon, is peddling more Branch Covidianism to keep people at home and shopping from Amazon instead of shopping at stores.
The premise of the story is complete, 100% absolute bull: Covid is not making a comeback. Despite the winter time, deaths from COVID are at the lowest they’ve been since the outbreak, except for a brief time in mid-Summer, 2021.
This from Apr 21, but I doubt much has changed.
“South Dakota has the highest number of hospital beds per 1,000 population in the U.S., while Oregon and Washington have the lowest, according to a ranking from the Kaiser Family Foundation”
Your post has more science than the CDC has.
My wife and I caught/were given the latest Covid Variant at a Thanksgiving dinner.
By this Monday, we were virus clear as per our home tests, and I went grocery shopping in/at our regular store.
At least 5% of the other customers were wearing masks. No solo male wearers. A few guys with their wives were wearing masks. Zero store workers were wearing masks.
I even saw 2 Karens driving wearing masks.
As if parking lot crime has nothing to do with it. Another view might be taken if you didn't actually live within a couple miles of a shopping district.
Anyone remember when Bezos started his empire? Powerful conservative people could have done the same thing but didn't, ever wonder why? Bezos disgusting scumbag that he is just outsmarted the market by bringing products to the masses that were never going to be available to them in local stores and anyone with a brain knows this. Walmart was the precursor to Amazon and was started by a very conservative man, Sam Walton, who left everything to his idiot liberal children.
I would greatly prefer that Amazon had been created by a patriotic American but it wasn't and currently I would be hard pressed to name any patriotic American corporate leader other than MyPillow Mike.
I own an IT consulting firm and was going to partner with a company for a government contract. We were close to signing an agreement. I went on LinkedIn and saw pics from their Xmas party at their office, all the Currys, and the rest of the His\Her\Them\IT pronoun crowd in masks. Made me giggle and then a little disgusted. I sent an email telling the CEO, “Thanks but no thanks I only deal with companies that align with my values, and well not sheep in masks.” That’s a quote. I’ll split my 1.5 million with a company with a CEO with a brain. Nice to cancel the cancellers once in a while.
I have two relatives with Covid—tested positive plus symptoms.
That was after they had just recovered from the flu.
Both vaxxed multiple times for both.....
You can’t make up this stuff.
(Pureblood and healthy here.)
I feel it is going to be some city that will do it first, Oakland, California recently remain to get them for city owned buildings. My gut says it’s gonna be a city like DC, Los Angeles, etc. Before any state wide.
I believe those places you name aren’t concerned with one of the biggest unintended consequences of mask mandates: It provides cover for employees who don’t want to come in to work.
Not a problem in Oakland, Philly, or Trenton...
