The Second Amendment protects the right to people to "keep and bear arms," and at its core the right to self-defense, [judge] McConnell observed.
[Reporter]The ban was a reasonable and measured approach to restricting large-capacity magazines, which in practice easily convert handguns into semi-automatic weapons capable of rapid fire, he said.

“reasonable and measured approach”
That’s not the test, sorry.

Another Judge that knows nothing about Firearms
I believe the Constitution (The U.S. Constitution by the way) says we all have the right to own & bear arms. I don’t think it says anything about WHICH arms.
The same thing is currently happening in Kalifornia with Duncan v. Bonta which is currently remanded back to the District Court who is demanding a historical record from both Defendants and Plaintiffs by January 15th, 2023.
Whatever Duncan v. Bonta uncovers will be used in all similar cases across the country such as this one, and the one pending in Oregon.
Wouldn't that be semi-rapid fire?
"...High capacity magazines easily convert handguns into semi-automatic weapons capable of rapid fire..."
On the surface, this seems like complete and total ignorance, but I have come to believe it isn't ignorance or stupidty. It is calculated destruction of the truth to achieve a political goal.
Obama judge.
Stupid. If you get shot, is it going to matter how big the mag was?
I would not, in the slightest, be surprised if the quote had been:
“the ban was a reasonable and measured approach to restricting large-capacity machine-gun cartridges, which in practice easily convert revolvers and derringers into full-semi-fully-semi-automatic magazine weapons capable of machine gun morter artillery fire, like tanks and jetfighters do.”
Common sense would tell us that any judge should have some knowledge about the details of a case he is trying, otherwise he should declare himself ineligible. If he goes ahead with something he knows little or nothing about, he should be disbarred. I believe that would stop a lot of the foolishness & mistrials that seem to go on in our country.
How long until some Leftist gun grabber makes the argument that if a semi-automatic cycles too quickly it’s an automatic? Or that someone capable of pulling the trigger very quickly in succession similarly makes the firearm effectively an automatic.
This shizzit doesn’t end. Glad we keep fighting, but something major (courts or legislatively) needs to help put a stop to this nonsense.
From the article: The Second Amendment protects the right to people to "keep and bear arms," and at its core the right to self-defense, [judge] McConnell observed.
Absolutely not. The Second Amendment recognizes the inalienable right to keep and bear arms to protect one from tyranny. Agents of tyranny today carry taxpayer funded "large" (standard) capacity magazines.
This judge McConnell should also be forced to give up his Second Amendment right for denying it to others.
Who knew you had to convert a semi-auto into a semi-auto? I always assumed the semi-autos you bought at the store factory spec were already semi-auto.
“he ban was a reasonable and measured approach to restricting large-capacity magazines, which in practice easily convert handguns into semi-automatic weapons capable of rapid fire, he said.”
Huh? So the gun fires more rapidly when it has a larger magazine in it?
Larger magazine lets you keep firing without needing to reload, but doesn’t magically make the gun fire more rapidly.
You have to make other modifications if you wish to make a semi automatic weapon an automatic one... this is independent of the magazine capacity.
It means more tax dollars get wasted on another frivolous liberal opinion being overturned.
Well, semi-semi-auto at least.
Suggest reading the thread above. Madness indeed.
